Hi everyone.
I won't get too wordy...
I happen to click by Losing it by Jillian tonight and, despite the cheesy drama, was hit pretty hard by the message.
I'm about 3 bills and 41 years old. Five years ago I was an active duty military officer at a slim 190 pounds, running 4-6 miles a day.
One day I had a severe ankle inversion playing racquetball, followed by a year battle with RSD (lots of pain and freaky nerve issues). Following that, I started gaining weight like crazy and a bulging disk took over, making walking or standing very difficult.
It's been very hard for me to accept such dramatic change in just a few years. I'm now very immobile. I work full time still, but it's a real effort to get there and move around in the office.
I recently had bloodwork done and my sugar was high, which comes as no surprise. Since my injuries, I've been depressed (no more than moderately, though) and I eat carelessly. I eat just about anything I want and drink TONS of soda.
Between my doctor's warning (last week) and seeing this show tonight, I have decided to do what's right by my family (wife and 10-year-old son) and start eating right and doing whatever exercise I can. I already quit soda last Friday. The first two days are tough, but I'm over it. I drink mostly water and diet pop now, which probably saves me 1000 calories a day! It's a start.
I'm going this week to join a pool and see what machines I might be able to do without pain. It's going to be a huge struggle, but seeing this forum gives me even more optimism to help me crawl out of this hole and try to be the person I was before.
I promised not to get wordy, I guess I failed. Anyway, I love the forum and I look forward to reading some of the discussions and getting my backside in gear.
I'm fairly well educated on diet and exercise, it's just a matter of applying that knowledge again. With your help, I know I can make a serious change. I've been in a rut too long and I've had enough.
If you made it this far, I thank you for reading. Let's get at it!!
