Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

That dumpster dive relic is great! Thats a white elephant Christmas party gift if I ever saw one.

Looks like your doing pretty good!

If you're getting frustrated at the mo' just think of it like this...just tell yourself that each and every pound you are losing is going to STAY lost for EVER.

How good does that feel now?

If you had lost too much too soon then you would have the worry that it might come back.

I have been in the game for years and trust me, the folks who shed weight too fast end up the size of a shed...

On the weather report, we have had snow here and it is only October. It was minus 4 last week. So much for global warming!

328 on the scale this am.

My trainer, like me, feels like I'm still a little too big to hit a real plateau. I don't technically have "cheat" meals only because my normal meals consist of pretty much most everything I want to eat. For example, I have ribs defrosting in the fridge right now. So to "cheat" wouldn't really involve me eating anything different, just eating a lot more of it. A lot less carbs (but still some in there) less fat (but still plenty) and roughly the same amount of protein.

I know about the effects of reduced calorie consumption on metabolism but it just seems like what those effects should be right now shouldn't cancel out the calorie deficit I'm running. I'm at a roughly 2100 calorie diet, which tends to result in about 2200 calories a day (some days 2100, some days 2300). Normally for a guy my size and activity level, I might burn around 3800 calories but with the calorie deficit the last three and a half months maybe it's down 300 to 400 calories or so to 3400. Of course the bigger problem is what science doesn't know about nutrition appears to be greater than what it does at this point.

The concept behind "cheat" meals is supposedly to let your body know it's not starving and that supposedly has a positive effect on your metabolism. But again the science on that is foggy, particularly the science involving just how many extra calories and how long it takes to reverse that.

I'll give it another week, and if I don't hit 325 at one of my weigh ins by then, I'll have a 3000 calorie day just for the heck of it.

How's the sodium intake been? The amount that water fluctuations can impact weight makes the scale very misleading. I still see a 2-3 lb fluctuation on days of salty meals which pretty much masks an entire week's worth of exercise and real weight loss.

Oh I'm sure the day to day fluctuations are water weight. I didn't just lose two pounds and gain three back in a span of five days. I think it was the night out drinking on (more or less) an empty stomach that mummified me and brought my weight down to that 326 and it took a few days for the water weight to return.

As far as sodium, I probably am pretty consistent on how much of that I consume during a day since I tend to play around in the same sorts of food groups every day. I have no large source of sodium I could point to that would do it (Diet Coke has some but not really a lot). Seasoned the steak pretty good last night, but then I'm actually a pound less this morn than yesterday so that's probably not it.

I think where folks get in trouble with sodium is when they cut out fats and then cut out sugar, there's not too many places left to go for flavor and salt is one of them.

Made myself french toast this morning as it's been a lot of meat and proteins lately. Maybe mixing it up a little with some "bad" carbs will do something. Probably not, but it was 500 calories of yummy anyway.

MrVee, I am STILL in the same boat as you! Stuck at the same weight or a bit higher for nearly the past week!! SO frustrating!! Hope you can get things moving again!

I think a lot of people under-estimate the amount of fat you need, even while losing weight. The meal plan I got from my nutritionist roughly works out the same every day- 40% fats (mostly from nuts, avocado, eggs and small amounts from lean meat) and 30% of both carbohydrates and protein. I don't watch my sodium either- I tend to add a pinch of salt to everything, but I have low blood pressure and it seems to help (that, and eating every few hours). Uhmmm fun recent discovery since I've started counting calories again, I think I have the opposite problem to what I initially thought- I think I'm not eating enough, rather than too much. So hoping sticking to my plan a bit more and adding the extras I'm allowed will help me shift weight again. Grrr. I aim to have no more than a 1000 calorie deficit daily, even if I stick to that for for more than a week or two my weight losses usually stop.

327.5 this morning. Hopefully this drop will continue for a bit now.

Having a job working from home where you sit in front of a computer redefines the word 'sedentary' and so while some have to be careful watching their diet, I have to be careful watching my activity level as well. So on top of my workout yesterday (basketball and walking to and from the club), I walked to and from the produce store (about a mile total) and then hit some golf balls at the range last night. That on top of my normal housework and chores should be enough to be active without trying to overdo it (being constantly sore and in pain will not help the process).

Ending on a good note, I think it's finally time to open the windows and shut off the air. November is a hell of a time to live where I do, so it's time to enjoy it.

Yay on the drop!! Hope it keeps going for ya! I can imagine it being hard to make sure you are active when your job involves sitting at a desk. I am lucky that my job is spent standing at a grooming table, lifting dogs in and out of the bath tub, and onto and off of the grooming table. Sometimes makes for sore feet but it burns a touch more calories than sitting at a desk! Plus I have my horse I have to ride 5-6 days a week (though I DID take October off, normally you have to be on a very strict schedule to be prepared for horse shows) which is extra helpful to make sure I am getting out and moving my body!

325.5 this morning. Oh so close!

The two big grocery stores are a little over a mile away so I decided to walk there last night to pick up some stuff rather than drive. I figure every little bit helps.

Don't know what to do for a workout, guess I'll wing it when I get to the club.

I wonder if I went to a stable, when I walked in would the horses take one look at me and run for their lives? :)

Saturday morning and 324.5 pounds on the Health-o-meter. And so:

Thank you, Fitty. Or should I call you, Mr. Cent.

The next benchmark is a big one for me personally. It's a while yet to come, but by the end of January I'm hoping to hit the 299 mark. That's one I actually do plan on celebrating.

You lost 50 POUNDS!! Holy Crap dude! That's amazing!! Fantastic Job!!! Keep it up and you will be at your goals in no time!

Way to go!

Like the bling!

Keep it up now...this will be the tough period coming up over the festive season. Stick to your vision and see yourself as that sub 300 person. It will happen...

Thank you, thank you.

324 on the scale this morning. I think my exercise quantity this week has caught up to me as I am one sore puppy right now. I think today is not only a day of rest, but I may tack on a couple extra calories to try and help fuel the repair of my muscles.

Looks like the target date for being done with this 300 pound nonsense forever is about the second or third week of January. As for a year from now, it looks like anywhere from 205 to 230. A weight that quite frankly is incomprehensible to me right now.

Hahaha love the pic of fitty, too funny!!! Well done on the loss too! Looking like you're on a roll- hoping I can report a loss come Friday!

So you'll be starting the new year in the 200s, that's also really exciting :hurray:

LOL at your stable comment... If I went to a stable, I would be running to save myself from allergies! So allergic to horses. I used to hate going to youth camps and being forced to ride a horse, then spending the next two days looking like I'd been punched in both eyes.

Nice pic

Heck I bet that bling weights like an extra 10 lb!!! Har Har

Good job on gettin that scale unstuck!

323.5 on this fine Monday morning. Time to get back out there after a non-workout Sunday. I also have to hit a bike shop as my Saturday bike ride had a couple of defugalties that need to be ironed out. One of my pedals cracked in half while riding. I guess I still weigh too much. Granted they were old and that bike had been sitting unused for quite some time, but it still gives you roughly the same feeling as when a chair breaks when you sit on it.

Oh well, as long as the bike rims don't crush like a soda cans from the weight I guess I'm good. :)

Thanks. I get the feeling I was a bit dehydrated this AM but I'll take what I can get.

Tonight, inspired by our friend from Western Australia, I decided to try and perfect my food experiment from last week. I give you Adobe Pie! (it's just Shepherd's or Cottage Pie made a guy who lives in Arizona):

It was pretty darn yummy too. I think, however, if I listed the ingredients, every one of Luz's food allergies would kick in at once. So I'll refrain. I guesstimated about 750 calories total (maybe not even that much). Washed down with the "Champagne of Beers." Another 140 calories (memorized) but worth every one. That's probably a little much for the women (you can cut down on the potatoes to reduce calories), but for any normal size guy that's easily fit into a dinner allotment.

What's amazing about the above is that while it's nobody's idea of health food or diet food, the portion control and preparation ingredients make it such that you can really cut caloric corners compared to going to the In-N-Out Burger and letting them go to town on your arteries. Just because something is 1100 calories doesn't mean it's going to taste all that good and I've had plenty of fast and restaurant food that was twice as many calories as this and not nearly as yummy.
