Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

Officially 200s eh? WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You're rockin that monocle! Good show ole chap.

Thank you. Surprised you guessed my typical evening attire so well. The disappearance of the monocle from modern fashion was a tragedy.

Haha, love it!

Your doing fantastically :hurray:, well done on reaching the 200's, what a fantastic start to the new year :) Do you feel a lot better in yourself after losing all that weight? x

Yeah, but I'm not where I want to be weight wise, so there's still that. But I think the relationship between how you feel physically and how you feel emotionally is pretty strong. I just have a ton more energy and the result has been a very serious uptick in my moods. I'm thrilled with losing this weight.

However there's a certain level of comfort in the apathy of being single and really fat. All of the stresses of dating and similar concerns fall by the wayside as you don't really have to care about it anymore. Now that I'm looking at a birthday in August where I project to be in the 230s, this very soon becomes something that's back on the table, and I was never any good at it to begin with, even when young and thin.

So even though I am thrilled about it, it does bring about a host of new challenges and changes into how I view the rest of my life. Good challenges, I suppose, but it still is likely to be a rocky road sometimes. Apathy can be so very tempting during those times, so I just have to remind myself that it isn't what I want anymore.

For now I need to get under 250 before I even entertain the idea of going trolling for divorcees at the Trader Joe's. :D

Hey feelinggooder, good (or gooder) to have you back.

298.5 this morning, and that two is still looking majestic. Think I'll buy some Turtle Wax and keep that '2' nice and shiny and polished.

No personal training today, but I'll still go to the club and do something (basketball I guess). The cold is still here unfortunately {sniffle). They apparently {sniffle} make these suckers strong {sniffle} up in Northern Michigan {sniffle}. {cough}

Anyhow, back when I was in the the 360s and was finally starting to lose this weight, I promised my family that when I broke 300, it was Monte Cristo sandwich (the king of all sandwiches) time, and I'd look for the best Monte Cristo in Phoenix. Unfortunately one key family member is out of town, so I'm going to wait until she's back before I indulge. Look at this thing:

After half a year of (more or less) behaving, I might go into toxic shock syndrome after one bite of that. I don't know how many calories that has, but I'm pretty sure it starts with a '1'.

Despite the encouragement from the peanut gallery, I will not be making a trip to Trader Joe's today. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but back in my day women didn't like it when you coughed on them. Or at least you weren't real interested in the ones that did like it...

That "sandwich" is going to make you feel like crap. The ladys are right. Get over your cold and your "sandwich" and get to Trader Joe's. Keep up the great work! You're inspiring me. I so ready to have my under 300 moment.

That 'sandwich' looks um sticky? Is it French toast all bundled up with bacon? I've never heard of a monte cristo sandwich but it looks awesome...

I hope you enjoy every bite!

Dear god what have I done?!?

:D

I got it protein style (no bun) with no fries or the dreaded 1100 calorie milkshake so it was about 520 calories (according to their nutrition info). I'm allotted around 450 for lunch and missed my 85 calorie snack this morning, so I'm pretty much on target. Obviously eating crap like this regularly is a no go, but it had been a few months so what the hell.

As for the Monte Cristo, everyone makes it different ways, but generally you put together a ham and cheese (gruyere for high end places, plain ol' swiss for dives) sandwich, dip the whole thing in a seasoned egg batter and then fry it. It also usually comes with the business card of a cardiologist. It's sort of the quintessential over-indulgent sandwich.

When I had my last Monte Cristo I had never been to Phoenix, and I've lived here for about 11 years now.

That's because were tough up here! :p And holy hell that sandwich is HUGE...enjoy! haha!

Alright for the exercise and fitness experts, does this sound possibly right?

Seems like a lot (my watch said 1700 which seems like way too much). Figure just sitting around doing nothing for that long would probably burn around 200 tops. 1100 seems like a ton. Granted I pushed it today, but even so.

That does seem pretty excessive. Though I know that my elliptical says I burn 550 calories for half hour, I know it's much closer to half of that amount (and I give it pretty good on the elliptical, with my heart rate around 160-170 for my hard intervals, 140-150 on my light min inbetween hard intervals). Still, good burn MrVee!

BTW I don't say this enough, but thanks to all who patronize my diary. It does make this a little easier knowing I have a place to vent and people will at least politely skim through it. :)

Anyhow 297 this morning as the weight seems to be flying off recently.

Yesterday was a weird day in that it's possible I shorted myself a bunch of calories because I don't know how much dinner I ate. It was a beef ribs cooking experiment in my new slow cooker, and while they were tasty, they were no longer very easy to divide up into knowable caloric content. I ate what seemed like the right amount and left the rest for today.

Personal training today has been completed and my next session isn't until Tuesday. Hopefully the cold will be gone by then.

yes it does sound right, that little bit of extra bodyweight adds a lot to the calories used, the watch is probably too high but with more information then the accuracy would be better.

Do you know the MET value of your exercise if so

(MET x body weight in kg. x 3.5)/200 = calories burned per minute

1 MET is doing nothing.

when I train if the calories burned using HR in the calculation match with what the MET formula calculates I am reasonably happy with the accuracy.

Well I don't really know the MET for yesterday's stuff (it was a lot of different things). However I went hiking on Saturday and they give a '6' for that (my HR averaged 127 for just under 50 minutes). So your formula gives ((6*136.531*3.5)/200)*49 minutes and 26 seconds = 708.66. And the estimator above gives 714.965. :D I guess that's pretty damned close. So my 'in the gym' workouts tend to have higher average heart rates (143 today and last week), so I'm guessing they're right around a '7'.

Interesting stuff, until now I thought MET just meant Darryl Strawberry and David Wright.

I wonder what affect what is now longish term (6 months) calorie restriction has on this? I'm eating about 2200 calories a day which has consistently been at least 1,000 under maintenance I would think. Does someone who has gone from 375 down to 300 differ from someone who is just starting out at 300?

Going through the hard drive and came across a couple of files. The pic should be pretty self explanatory:

What's interesting to me is that it appears to me that I had more or less settled in at around 345 pounds as I had gained basically nothing in over two years. Then for some reason I managed to pack on 30 more from there (there are pics from November of 2010 that look way heavier than 345) somehow. While I didn't get a trustworthy scale until August 3, which said 358.5, the one at the gym said 368 roughly in the second week of July. Just wondering why I suddenly tacked on those 30 pounds.

It's also good to know that I wasn't just imagining being that heavy for that long. That first one will be six years ago in two weeks. I'm about 99% positive that I haven't been as light as that 338.8 since, until now of course.
