looking for walkers' success stories

I'm 5'4' 200 pounds and walk 1-3 miles a day. Last September I was walking double that in the nice weather. Trying to put it all together, the small portions, the water (cold green tea for me, 2 1/2 l/day), the walkman. Doing weight watchers at home and finding 26 points not too tough. Avoiding strenuous exercise for now. Will it work????

I don't know if I qualify as a walker success story - but that's pretty much what I do.

When I started walking, I was doing about 2 miles, ever other day or so, and it took close to 40 minutes to do it.

Over time, I slowly built it up until I was walking 5 miles a day, 5 days a week in under 1 hour and walking 13 miles on one day.

I took some time off to let my feet rest/heal a bit and I'm back to 5 miles a day, and I'm slowly building up my endurance day - today I went 7 miles, next week, I'll do 8 etc.

It sounds like you are doing well, smaller portions, water and walking sound like a GREAT plan to me :)

lol, i thought walkers was some kinda new diet :D
There are a few people who walk a fair bit at a great pace! M2M would be one of them!

wow 2 moderators at once!

Thank you for your replies. I'm feeling great. I had a profound shift in my head yesterday from the fear of thin exercise (25 reasons why I want to stay fat). I had answers like "I want to stay fat so that I'll never be thin" Hello. Or I want to stay fat so that I can continue to eat whatever forever because thats the most important thing to me." Well I discovered that thats not the most important thing to me. I am missing out on things. It was very refeshing. I would like another writing exercise.

My scale is showing the results of a very good week. Talk to you soon. Love Kelly.

Hey Kelly!

That's the moderators and everyone else around here! Always quick with the bit of advice and encouragement.

I walk every day myself, but nothing compared to what M2M is cracking out!
I walk for 25 minutes at 20 min/mile. Sometimes, it takes all my will to do just do that. Eventually, I'd love to up it to a few miles a day.

Have you looked at

I love it. You enter your weight, height, gender, your goal weight, and target date. Then it tells you how many calories you can eat a day and how many you need to burn in order to reach your goal.

Then you enter what you eat (and it keeps track of your calories) and then what exercise you did (and it keeps track of your burned calories).

I am doing it and so is my husband. And it's FREE!!

Also, I really suggest starting a journal here. The other members are incredible helpful.

Like jajochku3, I use too - I love that site - another good one that many people here use is

It really was an eye opener how much I was eating when I wasn't keeping track!

Also,I agree, starting a journal here is a great way to keep on track and to let everyone get to know you and follow your progress!

Back in 2005 i went to London, Paris, and Rome for 10 days and we did a lot...and I mean a lot of walking. When I got back to the states and stepped on a scale I discovered that I had lost 12lbs!!! I was so excited. Since I didn't keep up all that walking those 12lbs plus a few extra came straight back to me. So my conclusion is, that walking really does help, just as long as you keep doing it and add in inclines or some type of difficulty as you progress. Now if only I can put my body where my mouth is and do this myself all will be great :p

I walk/hike daily. I don't keep track of how many kilometers/miles but I'm pretty good paced and usually go for an hour. combined with a proper diet its working.

jenn, when I was in Europe we did a crazy ammount of walking...it ended up working out to about 8hrs per day.

Hi Kelly! I don't know how I missed your posts before, but I have to tell you, I was exactly where you are back in August! I started out at 200 lbs, I began by only walking (I was recovering from a c-section, so that's all I could do), cutting out mindless munching and pop, lowering portions, and drinking my water. I lost about 8-10 lbs the first 3 weeks, then I joined WW online. It's been working great so far!

If you need someone to chat with, exchange recipes, ask questions or whatever, just pm me! I'm usually around. :)
