Looking for Encouragement

Hi,

I've been struggling to lose weight for years now, and I have a recurring "it's too big, it'll never work" mentality that causes me to give up after just a short amount of progress. I'm doing better now than I ever have in my life, but I'm at a low point right now and just looking for anyone to throw a "you can do it" my way. helpful motivational tips would be welcome.

what really does it for me is comparison...the "look at her, I'll never look like that so why even try?" really gets me sometimes. other times not, but right now i'm dealing with that big time.

anyhow, thanks for anyone reading and good luck to all of you as well.
take care,
-A

Welcome and good luck to ya!! You can do it with encouragement &
support, and this website you'll find to be very helpful!
First off start yourself a daily diary and keep track of your foods
exersices and your basic everyday life! This helps me alot along with
some great people on here! good luck Tammy:)

Hi & welcome to the forum! Yes! You CAN do it! If you need some encouragement, just look around at the posts and the before & after pics...it always gives me a boost.

Oh...and one more thing...don't just look at your goal and think how far away it is for you. Let me tell you that you will be excited with each mini goal you reach. Like when you go down a size in clothes or drop your first 20, then your next 20. You will feel that excitement with each new thing...not JUST when you get to your goal weight. There are many rewards on this journey of ours that makes the whole trip worth while!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You certainly can do it! Just read some of the threads in the online diary section - look at some of the tickers on here - people like you are doing it!

Bep's advice is sound - set yourself a long term goal weight if you wish - but concentrate on shorter goals on the road to that ultimate target. Make those goals easily achievable - they can be based on a number of lost pounds, or on a measurement, a level of exercise, a clothing size, etc. Whenever you reach one of your short term goals - reward yourself with some kind of treat, buy yourself a reward. You will note that some posters here have two tickers - one for their present short term goal, and one for the long road.

More motivation? Maybe sitting or laying down somewhere quiet, relaxing deeply, and working on that negative self image that compares yourself unfavourably to others. You could try visualising yourself as you would like to be - the person that you secretly want to be. Chances are that person is the real you, buried under all of those self-doubts. Learn to recognise that negative self image for what it is - an illusion. You need to concentrate on those moments when you have achieved things, and felt good about yourself.

Don't put up blocks for yourself - dont make excuses for not trying to do something, start believing in your self. For everyone who says that they cannot do something because of some 'problem' - you can always find another who achieved the task who had much more serious problems. Think about the people with profound disabilities who overcome them to achieve something - they didn't have self doubts.

Commit yourself to a healthier lifestyle, and you will find support on these boards - there are some great people on here - weightloss heroes!

Good luck Ohio, I hope that you take the plunge, and that we will be hearing more from you :)
