Looking for advice (lots of it)

I'm doing something horribly wrong and i don't really understand it.

I was always a fit kid, then when i left school and started Uni i packed on the lbs and gained about 3 and a half stone in 4 years or so from going out drinking and socialising and eating takeaways all the time.

Anyway, i have lost 3 stone from my hardcore exercising and strict as hell diet but im very concerned i may have done a lot of damage to myself.

I'm 24, 6 ft 1" tall and 11 stone 5 lbs (159lbs) which on paper seems pretty healthy, but i have still have slight man boobs and a bit of a gut, and i fear that if i keep going the way i am ill be scrawny as hell and weight about 10 stone before i lose the belly (and i am not a scrawny build, infact i'm quite broad - big shoulders etc).

Another eye opener was losing to my 18 year old brother in an arm wrestle (what the f---?! I used to slaughter him about 6 months ago! BEFORE i started exercising) so im scared i've dropped a **** load of muscle.

So basically.. why the hell am i still so podgy at this weight and height:confused:

I'll show u guys my typical day during my dieting over the past 6 months;

FOOD
I only ever drink tap water, and a lot of it, throughout the day so i wont list drinks.

Breakfast: Large bowl of cereal (usually frosties) which is about 100g + semi skimmed milk

Dinner: Tuna mayo sandwich on wholemeal, 1 apple, 1 banana

Tea: 4-6 sausages in wholemeal bread, grapes, a 3rd of a cucumber by itself (yea im weird).

EXERCISE
I go running 6 days of the week between the hours of 8 and 10pm, i'm not exactly sure the distance i run, but i run solidly for 25 minutes at jogging pace around the block i live on a few times then come home, start the bath running and lift dumbell weights i have (15lbs each arm) while i wait for the bath to fill up (about 5 minutes of intense(at least it feels intense to me :p ) lifting). Relax for an hour or 2 then go to bed.

I have stuck to that pretty religously for the past 6 months, deviating on very, very rare occasions.

If anyone actually bothered to read that id really appreciate any advice or input, and if u need more information i'll do my best to answer any questions u have.

With weight loss, you lose muscles and fat at a fair amount. You could have beaten your brother simply because of the fact that 6 months ago you weigh a lot more than you do now. Simply put, weight pushing downwards would work well for folks of heavier sets.

As for the man-boobs and so fort, I wouldn't stress it all that much. It's probably a genetic thing and more than likely you only notice them because you're paying more attention to your body now than you did. I recommend not looking at a mirror and just concentrate on building up strength now that you lost weight.

I went from 250 to 180 and I'm way stronger than I was at 250. I beleive I still have those so called "man boobs" and perhaps I'm still considered a bit heavy (perhaps "skinny fat" I don't know). I'm able to lift myself up via pull ups, and so fort. I found however, that I am unable to wrestle all that much better. For example, in the past, I am able to successfully knock over people while in a brawl. Now, I really have to work hard at it simply because in the past, I used my weight to knock them down. Even more so, I've found that I'm unable to squat all that much weigh tnow and primarily again, because in the past, I had more mass therefore have more ability to lift great weight. Now though, I work with lesser weight, but I have the ability to lift my body weight several times more than I did at 250 pounds.

So basically, with lesser weight, you'll find that it's harder to do things physically with your weight than your strength. Try building strength for 6 months now, and then challenge your bro to arm wrestle and you'll see the strength plays more important of a role than weight did.

After looking at what you ate, I suggest you refine your diet a bit more with more food. It seems way less than what one should eat.

When on a calorie deficit diet to lose weight your body goes into catabolism.

This catabolism is the body targeting itself for energy.

It will break down muscle and body fat to obtain the energy needed for your activities.

In order to counter this effect you must include heavy weight lifting in your weight loss regimen.

If you jogged this much and ate this little - the results you got are normal. You are probably a lot more stronger in the cardio department right now than you we're before...but you lost a little muscles it seems. But, not to worry - you can get this back very easily. If you have the persistence to keep running this much, you will only have to re-direct a little of this persistence into weight lifting and this will also get rid of your "man boobs".

Cheers

Eric

Eat more protein, devote yourself to weight training and you will see a huge difference in a few months. You can fill in your man boobs with nice muscle and have a much better look.

I don't think you have "damaged yourself"--you have removed some unwanted bulk--you can now sculpt your bod to have what you want without all the fat!

Yes, if you look in the mirror and you do not like what you see the chances are (if your workout routine is fine) the culprit is in your diet.

you could get a little pickier at the diet, but yah I would say eat more but bottom line is, if u think u still have a gut and man boobs you have to lose more weight but if you lift and eat alittle more you would cut back on the muscle lost but like it or not to lose weight your gonna lose muscle and fat, mayb post some pics though bcuz a lot of times our minds can play tricks on us, when u look at yourself in the mirror it might not b what others see for example, I lost 100lbs but when I look at myself in the mirror I dont see a difference i have to look at old pics crazy isnt it
