I was wondering if anyone on here has tried a really succesful detox that really cleanses your system im interested in it to hlp start my weightloss but more interested in it bc i was on the depo for almosttwo year and really want to try and flush it out of my system so that i feel more like my old self. Ive heard that a good detox can really help that.... any suggestions

It depends on which route you want to go. Are you looking for something OTC? Or something natural?

My first thought is a raw food diet for 2 weeks or so. That would just be a general detox not specifically geared to drugs in the system.

The body has its own detoxification system already!

The reality of detoxing is that the body has its own in build detoxifiers namely the liver, kidneys, skin intestines and lungs and they are designed to remove and excrete toxins within hours of consumption.

I very much doubt there is anything that will remove the depo injection (otherwise it wouldnt be effective birth control would it?)

You have to bite the bullet and admit that you gain weight because you ate to many calories. Harsh as it may sound it wasnt the depo shot that made you overweight, though that probably increased your apatite, you still ate the calories.

I'm with Wishes on this one - the body has its own detoxification system already!

The liver can do it's job quite nicely - just add lots of water.

And I certainly don't go along with those people that suggest regular cleansings of the liver (and who are mostly all selling a certain MLM product that they claim will do the job).

If you've ever read about the functions of the liver, you'd know this is one organ you don't want to monkey around with.

What the heck is your point? Everybody on the planet, including the manufacturer itself, knows that Depo causes weight gain. If a hormone causes one's appetite to increase and causes ACTUAL HUNGER as well as strong cravings, and it causes your body to retain weight (i.e. slow down the metabolism) then that is CLEARLY the effect of the pill and not the person's naughty behavior. For if as soon as the drug is out of their system, or had they never been on the hormone in the first place, they would be smaller then it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the drug caused the weight gain.

Just because you ate your way to upwards of 300 pounds for whatever reason, doesn't mean everyone is the same as you. Especially the people who have always maintained a lower weight UNTIL they went on the hormones.

Are you disputing the very packet of info that the manufacturer provides with the product which says very clearly that weight gain is a common side effect?

Settle down, you sound very angst about it all.
My point is, if you eat too much you gain weight. thats it. The medication may make you hungrier, however

a) it doesnt shovel high calorie food down your throat. If you were more hungry then you eat more of lower calorie foods.
b) it doesnt make any major significant changes to your metabolism (100 calorie a day slow down isnt that significant).

So even for the clueless people, the most weight you can attribute to the depo shots would be a few lb per year. if that!
Try and reading up.

I look at it this way, you have a higher chance of gaining a lot of weight without the injection. And the chance of babies increases.

ok it seems that this wasnt the kind of forum i was expecting it to be yeah there seem to be a few on here that actually try and support eachother but most of you really dont give a f*ck. Yes the depo does make you hungrier and thats why i gained most of the weight i did however the drug itself was the problem. before i started the drug i could loose weight i put on very easily and now it doesnt matter how many hours a week i work out and do cardio i havent lost one pound in three weeks and i am watching what i eat.

thats entirely beside the point. I wasnt asking about a detox to help me loose weight yeah it would be nice but what im interested in is something to HELP get this drug out of my system a little faster than doing nothing at all. I do like detox's abd i believe in them so im not asking anyone to come on here and tell me its not a good idea or "your body has its own detox system" yeah i freaking know already i was asking for someone to come on here and let me know if they have tried a good one. if you dont then dont bother typing anything. I have heard of people trying detox's that seem to flush the depo out a little faster than doing nothing.

thanks

Sorry you feel you weren't getting the advise you needed. But I am still thinking of going the raw food route. Things come out of your body through your bowels. Fiber moves the bowels. I think it is something you should think on.

EDIT: There is a book you can check out. The library does have this in most places.

The Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalia Rose.

How long have you been off the Depo and what has your health care provider told you about how long it will be in your system for/ ie - at what point do you need to start using an alternate method of birth control?

well i am in the process of switchng doctors bc the one i have doesnt really seem to care or know what they are doing i do know that it can take up to 2 years for it to be completely out of your system and im waiting until i start my cycle again before i continue with any form of birth control

The most admired detox systems are liquid diet type symptoms such as juice or water fasts. Most engage in you just drinking a certain kind of juice or liquid diet for several days at a time. Throughout this fasting period the only thing you are thought to eat or drink is the juice.

I have had several great experiences with detoxification. Though our bodies do have a natural detoxification process via liver etc., detoxing does strengthen our organs.
I strongly recommend detox to anyone interested, especially before undertaking a new diet or food change. Detox cleans you out & starts you fresh, it increases your energy & depending on what you are using, removes parasites and build up in the colon.
Colonix has a great colon & liver cleanse. If you look at their website they have some pretty graphic pictures of things that came out of people's bodies! Colonix is highly recommended by reputable natural health practitioners.
Juice fasting is also a great detox, because it lessens the toxic loads in the body and the body will then naturally begin to heal itself. Fasting provides the opportunity for the organs to rest and it stimulates the liver by pushing away the toxins from the body.
After doing a juice fast & a detox, the best thing you can do for your body is to switch to a raw foods diet. "busy91" is definitely on the right track with that. The Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalia Rose is a great book to start with. I recommend that you research colonix, juice fasting & raw food diets. There is so much information out there on the subjects. Here is a link to a "links page" that has a lot of great info on it. I especially recommend the links on fasting & raw foods.

Good luck on your quest! You're definitely on the right track!

There is a lot of evidence that suggests that it makes it easier for you body to release the fat once your body is free of toxins. The toxins acutally cause your body to hold on to fat and increase water retention. I have all of my clients do a cleanse. Its important how the cleanse is structured and the nutrition that it provides. The last thing you want to do is starve yourself with no nutrition at all. Anyway cleansing definitely has a place in ever weight/fat loss program

dboz, can you show us some research on the effects of detox on fat release? That would interesting to look into if true.

I can show you hundreds of before and after photos but here a a few websites that also back up that statement

(read: Fat as Protection from Toxins)

The Diet Channel

Just as a side note I am not advocating any products from those sites. I just did a quick search. If you are looking for something more specific I would be happy to assist you along with your own searches. Currently there is only 1 nutritional cleanse that I suggest after trying many with myself and clients.

I can make any claim I want, then spend about 5 minutes or less, to find info to back up said claim.. Doesn't mean that the claim I'm making is accurate or healthy...
