Longtime lurker...

Hi everyone... lots of impressive success stories here, and I really REALLY need to become one of them!

I've been lurking about for a long time, planning and WISHING to lose all this weight I need to lose but never taking any action. I need to take that action now but just feel overwhelmed and daunted instead of hopeful and motivated.

I'm hoping to find the way to turn that around soon, and I think I've found a really good place to start here.

Congratulations to everyone who has made the commitment and done the work to achieve their goals! There is a lot of inspiration for other people in your posts and pictures, and sometimes that makes all the difference.

Hello and welcome!

Kudos to starting a new healthy life. Since you've been lurking you know the drill... Start a diary and let us get to know you better.

Cheers,

Welcome aboard. :)

Chances are you have some preconceived notions that are wrong hindering your emotions and momentum.

I'd start by identifying them.

What is overwhelming about this?

What are your fears?

What are potential road blocks for you?

Why do you want this?

What will it feel like and what will it mean to you if you don't succeed?

What will it feel like and what will it mean to you if you do succeed?

Try not to worry too much about the big picture - especially if you have a fair bit of weight that you would ideally like to lose.

Think of achieveable milestones that you could do in a manageable length of time. Reducing your weight by 10 pounds can make a difference. You can feel healthier and know that you are improving things. I firmly believe in lots of milestones. I still celebrate milestones regularly - and believe that each one encourages you to keep on track while aiming for the next one.

Long before I stopped being morbidly obese I had achieved the following (on top of all the normal weight boundary stuff):
I was a weight that meant that I could use my elderly father's stairlift to get upstairs in their house if ever I broke a leg or anything.
I had dramatically improved my blood pressure.
I had improved my cholesterol levels such that I could come off my tablets.
People were commenting that I looked better because they could see that I had lost weight.

Thanks for reading!

Thank you for reading my post and for the comments. I'll admit I'm BRAND new to the whole message board thing (of any kind) so I'm a little slow when it comes to the way things work. Threads, posts, reps, tickers.... hmmmm.... feelin' a little behind the times, but I'm sure it'll come to me.

When I say I've been lurking, I mean mainly just in the before-after-and-in-between forum because the before and after pics are so inspirational. I'll have to see what the whole diary thing is all about, and maybe one of these days actually get up the nerve to take (let alone POST) some pictures.

:)

Many of us feel that way. I have never posted pictures in the before / after section - and I know lots of people that feel the same. Quite a few people hide them away in their own diary for only their friends to see.
