Little John's trying again. And again. Aaaand again.

Morning John. It's horrible isn't it when all the stress and negative things pile up. I understand about the family. I used to talk things over with the dog, a good listener but not much advice given from him.

I hope you have a great week of accomplished Mini Goals! ;)

Low carb sucks!
It does, but it doesn't - I did enjoy that I could nosh on piles of cheese instead of 4 Wheat Thins.

I have 2 cats, they're even worse listeners! They don't give two shits about whether or not I'm hungry, and yet my life is supposed to end cuz they're hungry? Selfish little parasites, but I love them both.

Yeah, that didn't work out as planned, but we'll talk about that.

Haven't checked in in a few days: too long, I know. My weekend was a downhill slide - not to the bottom, but a lot further from the top than it should have been. I won't go into details, but it included home fries, cheese, wine, beer, McD's, fish sticks, and tarter sauce; not enough water or vegetables. And I know they're all fine in reasonable amounts, but other than the beer and wine, there were no reasonable amounts.

Through all the above, I managed to lose 0.2 lb. I also need to change the batteries in my scale, so I'm hoping that the big drop wasn't a result of bad batteries!

But Monday I hit a good reset mode, in spite of the shipment we received of Girl Scout cookies (daughter met her 100-box goal, we're impressed, though we ordered 5 ourselves). I've also re-configured my rowing regime to go 4 times a week instead of 5 - three reasons: 1) Getting 5 in a week isn't a guarantee, where 4 longer rows are easier to get in. 2) Anything extra will be a bonus. 3) I can add some weight lifting in eventually.

Need to start thinking of what I need to eliminate for bad habits. I've been doing good the last couple weeks, but not perfect. I don't expect perfection, of course, but I should try to get closer to it.

:seeya:Sorry LJ! :hug2:
This journey is not easy.....You're not giving up and you're makin' new goals to shoot for. :hurray:

# You will make it happen! #

See? Not so bad.

I personally don't see an issue when people have cheat days, even if they have multiple cheat days in a row. I believe cheat days are good for you as long as you don't overdo it. As long as you don't stretch out a cheat day or two into a month-long binge on junk food I don't think it's anything to feel bad about.

I mean, you technically LOST weight, sooooo...

I believe cheat days are good for you as long as you don't overdo it.

Yup, I agree, but a lot of that weekend was binging that was borderline out-of-control. It ain't easy, that's for sure.

Plus there's bacon involved, and that's never a bad thing.

Not in a low-carb scenario!

Second half of my work week, things are going so-so. I've been rowing consistently, and that's good. And I'm doing good at my meals and snacks (usually a reasonable mid-afternoon snack). Still fighting that 7pm - 10pm pang. I'm currently allowing myself a little dessert and that keeps me well under target, but I get these binge waves that grow stronger as the evening progresses. It's not a real hunger, it's a habit/emptiness/whatever. So that's going to be my first CHaTAM Challenge - starting tonight, I limit myself to a reasonable dessert after dinner, before 8pm. Nothing after 8 except water.

Weekend is here, no major plans, just getting stuff done around the house. Taxes, car repairs, kid things. Only thing tricky will be visiting friends on Saturday night, and that will include a sundae bar and probably take-out or frozen food. So a small breakfast and a big salad for lunch is on the agenda, and maybe some nuts for the drive over to keep the hunger reasonable, and I'll attempt to stay away from the appetizers when I'm there.

Have a good weekend everyone!

I guess I'm not the only one who has been really struggling to stay on track. I'm with you. Borderline cheating, but for me it was over the line. It's hard, but we can do this. Just gotta take it one day at a time. I hope your weekend went well. I may have to join your challenge. Just have to think of what I'd like to do. I really like your idea!

How did your weekend turn out?
About as predicted - Did good most of Saturday, until I went to said friend's house, where we parked in front of the chips and onion dip. Sigh... Sunday was my usual off-day, ate junk but wasn't self-abusive about it.
My only question is how are you scoring the contest?
I'm going to post up a sample tracker for folks to peruse, but it's basically going to be a percentage of opportunities to succeed vs actual successes.
I guess I'm not the only one who has been really struggling to stay on track.
All I can say is the cliché "don't give up". I'm stumbling all the time, but I keep picking myself up. I've noticed the stumbles are less and less, and I'm less angry about them. But I still need to remind myself "Not today" every time I get the snack attacks. I don't always remember that, and I don't always listen, but I have to keep trying.

I replaced the batteries on my scale... and the batteries were DOA. So I have no idea what I weigh.

I'm staying on the rowing machine, complete with a leisurely 1-hour row (at 500 calories/hr) yesterday. I'm not scheduled to row tonight, but I think I'll do a quick one tonight after tonight.

Weekend challenges? I can't think of anything too over-the-top. I have friends coming with their kids on Saturday. He needs my work computer to look at job listings, so I'm going to hang with him and guzzle water. And maybe a beer. We're also going to the Hartford St. Patty's Day Parade, so I might have some junk food, but not a lot.

Good luck, folks!

These weekends are killing me. And they probably wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't "riding the edge" during the week. I do fine at breakfast, so-so at lunch, then dinner shows up and I get so carried away. Friday, Saturday, Sunday night, all the same story. Sigh...

Also, I think my scale's dead. I've changed batteries twice, and it's not working. Next step is to check the battery contacts, it's not in the best spot of the bathroom (next to the toilet), but it's really the only spot.

Exercise-wise, I'm really quite happy with my progress. I'm still in slow boat mode, but I've been upping the resistance and distances covered (I have a target heart rate and row rate, so all I can really do to improve is to speed up each pull. Feels good to say I'm getting better.

Actually have a little time to kill today, so I'll actually be checking out some other journals!

Just keep tweaking and fine tuning and you'll have results!

As far as kids/friends with kids & their visits or vice-versa:

Now that the weather will be nicer, could y'all set up backyard obstacle course or fun-active things like that for Family Fun/Participation?
Grilled Food, Veggie Platters & things like that? ;)

Better food and calorie burning fun...

When my son was young, that was a life saver...Even though our friends were blessed with no weight issues, they understood our efforts and went along. The kids HAD A BLAST!
So much you can pick up for hardly anything at Dollar Tree and Party Stores re: backyard games, courses and things like that. :seeya:
Ya make good and fun memories as well.

You know, Stacy, I do like the idea of an obstacle course or something. I tend to like to work on little projects that are me-only, but I should get some things going with the kids.

Yesterday was OK, as well as could be expected. I went to the hand doctor first thing in the morning - the bad news is that my middle fingertip is still not healed. The good news is that he told me to get out of the splint and start using it normally (except when it's at risk for getting hurt, like doing garage work). I didn't do any exercise, which was per plan, though I probably could have benefitted from a lunchtime walk (details to follow...).

My company held a recognition party for those who supported the big panic in the last few months, which included an open bar and lots of unhealthy foods. I managed to pass on all the appetizers getting walked around the room (no small task, they looked delicious), and had a reasonable-sized serving of pasta and garlic bread, along with two glasses of red wine.

That would have been fine, and I would have been below calorie target, until.... I was driving home, and I went by a bunch of fast food joints, and I (sob) got a gawdam milkshake at Burger King. It wasn't even that good. 600 calories. Fruck.

Today's a new day, though, and our house is currently fairly devoid of junk food at the moment.

I never get myself down for indulging in things that are truly indulgent, but calories wasted on food that isn't even good... Been there, hate that. Life is short, only make room for the good stuff!

:D Have to giggle at not that good! :hug2: Been there - done that...

Isn't that always the result?! It's like the universe is saying...no-no-no....:p

Hope you heal up soon! What a drag, so sorry! ;)

re: backyard fun... Well, you sound perfect at coming up with something then!

One of my sons favorites was my crazy bowling idea.. You can get those plastic bowling pins/ball at most super stores or even Dollar General/Tree..

We set up the pins of course on concrete of patio but you had to run a lap through a crazy course first, then stop and throw ball to knock pins down.

It was a riot! :smilielol5:Especially when his grandparents and great grandparents would try.. So funny.. You have so much fun you don't even realize everyone is getting exercise. :)

Those shakes are diet killers. I was just reading that a medium Shamrock Shake has 710 calories- 1 1/2 time a Big Mac. Sure easy to drink our calories if we don't realize. Don't worry about the bumps just worry about the journey to get there. We all mess up. I try and stay away from drive thrus that was my Kryptonite so to speak. It was easy to do- no guilt( except self guilt) because I only did it when I was by myself and I could destroy the evidence before I got home. So I don't use them anymore.

Weekends were also my problem. I tended to over indulge then too. It was just a habit for me and it took a long time to go away. I broke it by going for a run when the urge for pizza hit me-lol. Believe me, when I first started out I ran for miles and miles. Eventually though it went away and Saturdays and Sundays are just days of the week for me.

I usually do, Oaks, really, but I had that wine buzz and a sweet tooth. Oh well, it's been digested and converted into an energy source of some kind. Not much to do now.

So, yup, I think that will become a new tradition when the backyard dries up. Maybe include some variations like kicking a ball into the pins, etc.

I do, too. I'm actually surprised how I barely even think about them these days, as opposed to stopping almost daily on the way home not too long ago.

Just an update: eating reasonably well the last couple days, and staying on top of my rowing. My biceps and forearms are starting to firm up and I can see a hint of definition in my shoulders, so hurray for me.

I've also been adhering to CHaTAM - realized that it's easier to keep track of how I'm doing if I'm just being good. Less to remember the next day when I'm updating.

Still need to clean the contacts on my scale, I think that's the problem. I have no idea what I weigh these days. I'm feeling better, but my belt hasn't changed much in the last couple weeks.
