Little John's Penultimate Goal

Great to see you back.

I've been in the same stalled phase for a while now. Should only take a week or two of continued focus to get beyond this point. Those are some very serious rowing sessions you're putting in now.

So, what a fun weekend. And I could tell it was on the scale. Had some friends down to help with clearing some land so I could expand my lawn. Then my wife baked cookies, and we had chili for lunch, and then we went beer-tasting, followed by burgers n' beer. Next day: omelet, some apple picking at an orchard with a brewery, so I had to partake, pizza for dinner... Did I mention the brush clearing?

Oh well. This week is staying mostly home, working around the house. I have some lettuce on standby, hoping I have the willpower!

Sounds like there was good exercise involved in the weekend at least. Have been struggling with my weekends too trying to find the balance of enjoying them without turning into a monk, then again, even living as a monk I'd have to contend with the beer issues I guess.

Drink plenty of water and get some more brush clearing in this week and it'll all work itself out I'm sure.

Oh, I worked a chunk of it off yesterday - had 10 yds of top soil delivered, about 8 of them have been spread around to sorta level the backyard.

My back is more than happy to point out what I have done to myself. And those last 2 yards will be a challenge.

Sounds like quite a workout. I'm still in clearing mode and only get a chance to get out there on the weekend as I have very limited daylight to play with outside work hours.

Whelp, I survived my vacation week, didn't do any formal exercise, but I kept myself busy, and with the exception of Sunday, I did OK on the food front. As a result, my weight went down less than half a pound. I started rowing again last night, with 4 x 2K, I did pretty good time, but I was beat when I was done! I'm supposed to rest tonight, but I think I'll make up for lost time, instead.

Welcome back John. Good to hear you made it through vacation week and still posted a loss.

Make sure you ease back into the intense workouts with some lower intensity to start back after the break. Injuries suck.

Dirt shoveling can be counted as formal exercise.

I used to have a rowing machine. I loved that thing. Not sure my back would take that now.

I've found that if I keep my back arched, I have no problems. The trick is in keeping it arched. Looks good on paper, but 45 minutes is a long time to arch your back.

Back was not arched for the shoveling.

Time for a personal goal. Starting tomorrow, I will have no sausage or cream cheese with breakfast. I'll try for oatmeal during the week, but my company's cafeteria has these delicious and disgusting breakfast sausages that I can't resist.

My goals have all been exercise-driven, but I like exercise, so they've been easy. My weakness is still food. I need to save the unhealthy food for when it matters (nice restaurant, for example, or Mom's cooking or a beer-tasting event). Impulse drive-through visits and morning breakfast meats are not special, I don't need them, and I feel lousy after eating them.

So there's my first challenge in a while. Wish me luck!

Good luck with the methane and watch out for open flames. If you're looking for ways to change up the oatmeal, my usual morning meal consists of oatmeal with natural peanut butter and raisins mixed in. Sounds gross but is actually quite tasty and filling.

When I was in Jr High I actually saw a guy catch his underwear on fire lighting one of those methane bombs> I still remember the flame was blue!

My weakness is still food.

Amen brother! And when the weather cools I am craving meat! I do some good beef jerky with eye of round and venison when deer season gets here. That kinda satisfies.

Oatmeal - Day 1. I made a batch of thick-sliced last night to go the week. I mixed in almonds, raisins and protein shake mix. Quite filling, but not especially tasty, so I think I'll add a little brown sugar or something. I managed to decline the turkey sausages my wife made with breakfast yesterday, and it was tough. I did have the half link my daughter didn't finish, but since it was right after breakfast, it didn't count. Right?

I also did a rather brutal intensity row on Saturday - 250m, 500m, 750m, 1000m, 750m, 500m, 250m - with a rest between each session. I did good times (I think), but it was not pleasant. Good thing I had It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia on DVR!

Feels like I'm back in the swing of things, here's to maintaining that.

Sounds like Brawny's jumping hamburger patties have also infected your sausage links. Hate it when that happens but I agree that it doesn't count since it had to be eaten by someone to make sure food wasn't going to waste. Plus I think the 4000m (if my math is correct) of intense rowing compensated rather well.

Precisely, FG - plus it's turkey sausage, so it's practically fat-burning, right? Right?

Anyway, did some lifting last night - push-ups were not kind to me. First, my shoulders were killing me, so it was tough to squeak them out. Added bonus, one of the cats decided he was going to powder his nose while I was doing them. Mind you, the litter box is in the bathroom of the finished basement, attached to the area where I work out. Also, when he does a deuce, he unleashes a smell so unholy, I think he might be the Ark of the Covenant, and a couple of spooks are released from his backside. And his stench is heavier than air, so I'd drop *stink* push-up *fresh*. 30 times.

Good motivation, sort of.
