Lifting efficiently

I start off with low weights, high reps then gradually increase the weights and lower the reps, how efficient is this way of working out? is there a more efficient way of working out? (if so please tell me!)

Also is it healthy to work out until there is absolutely no more strength left in my body?

Not very, yes and no, respectively.

If you want to maximize your gains, you probably want to look into the book "New Rules of Lifting," affectionaly called NROL.

It'll teach you about wave loading.

Working to total failure is about as bad as you can get.

I don't own the book, but I know the author and a few people who are doing it. I can't comment other than I've heard nothing but good things about the book. Buy it.

However, training to total failure puts a great deal of stress on the CNS. Over time, you'll lose energy, suffer from sleep problems, become slower, weaker, etc. This is the chronic problems. The acute could lead to paralysis from total CNS failure.

In short, DON'T TRAIN TO FAILURE!

However, if you don't have money for the book, I suggest, very highly, in fact I would say, command you, to look into a pre-made routine.

Look here:

So should I change the "light weight-high rep, heavy weight-low rep" routine that I am currently doing?

And yeah I will stop that failure training that I have been currently doing. Its just that I get too pumped and too excited that I just keep lifting.

Just heavy with low reps no light with high reps to warm me up? which is what I currently do.

Thanks for link.

Ok, for warm-ups I do this:

N = reps/set of your working weight, so N+2 for an 8x3 regimen give a warm-up reps of 5.

I do 1xN+2x60%, 1xN+2x80%

then I hit it.
