Lift, Train, Fitness

Managed to get some bits and pieces at the dollar stores yesterday, candles, cellophane, some small sheets of felt, but could not find any chemical lights, the ones you bend and shake to make them glow, I want them in a couple of different colours for light painting, I still need 2 more good photos for the assignment, car trails, light painting and star trails are my best options but so far the star trails have been a fail, I need a better location to set up the long exposure with a better view of the sky, I have too many trees at home.

Exercise yesterday was running around the park with little miss and coaching,

I am nervous about tonight, stepping out of my comfort zone and going to meet the men's AFL team who need a S&C coach. I know nothing about AFL, it is not a game that appeals to me, so this will be a steep learning curve to be able to help these players.

I was a little surprised when I put up a notice in the Facebook group for local sports clubs to offer to do some volunteer Strength and conditioning coaching for any sport except football (soccer), I spent many years at football in a wide range of official positions including coaching and sports medicine. There were a couple of responses saying this or that sport needs a coach but the only one to actually contact me was AFL yet you hear all the time how sports clubs are always desperate for coaches and volunteers but it seem it is not actually the case.

Anyway, I wanted to expand the number of sports I have experience with, so I will see how it goes tonight.

Finally got my marks from my first photography assignment, feedback was good and a credit mark, I will post some of the pics tonight after AFL

Well done, Tru!
I can’t imagine why any team would not be interested in having a volunteer S & C coach. I think it’s great that you are so keen on expanding your knowledge & qualifications.

Excellent. Also: it looks like some clubs are desperate for volunteers because they're sloppy about actually doing something to get them... I don't even know what AFL stands for (Australian... Frolicking League?) But a sport you've never been interested in would likely give you the most chances to learn.

Had a good night at the AFL, lots of work to do but I think I will fit in well

What level AFL, Tru?
Great pics!

It is the local men's team - Gympie Cats, QFA Division 2 North Seniors (Ladder for 2021 QFA Division 2 North Seniors ), most of the team I met last night were teens or early 20s half the team were missing from training due to excessive soreness or injury after the last game, the coach is a player/coach.

The ladies team are obviously desperate for player, I was asked to join their team when I fielded a stray ball with my foot at just above hip height lol, it was instinct but not smart. Apart from my knee and hip problems and grey hair, it is rather obvious I am built like a rugby front row forwards and not an AFL player lol, I would be dead before running the length of the field.

I am super happy right now, just aced an online assessment (test) on Strength, Power and Plyometric training, I have come close on some assessments before but this is my first 100% mark on a Uni task

time to relax and eat lunch, left over chilli beef meal from last night, it is always better the next day lol.

fun session in the uni gym today, got to plat with the force plate, hit a 200 kg force plate deadlift, not a natural deadlift position for me due to the plate size (feet too close together) but not a bad result. I will be sore tomorrow as I did it 5 time trying to get a better number lol

I think I saw Eddie Hall test his strength on one of those and I was wondering how realistic the (non-)movement feels. Do you think it's an accurate reflection of people's capabilities or does the fixed position make it easier/harder?

it felt awkward, it was an older portable force plate, so feet were positioned too close (less than shoulder width for me) I have not tested max with a bar for a while so I am unsure how the numbers compare. Tutor commented that the newer portable plates are a bit wider and may provide a more realistic foot position.

After yesterday I don't have any injury pain, knee has come through ok, glutes have not developed DOMS however all of my back musculature is definitely feeling a mild case, not enough to restrict everyday activities but certainly enough to confirm how long it has bee since I have done any max effort work.

It's always interesting what our bodies tell us. I don't think I've been without glute and quad DOMS for more than 24 hours at any point in this past year :D

I am just taking a lunch break (mutton cutlets) from working on writing up my photography assignment, I finally managed to photograph some acceptable star trails. I should get it finished tonight and submitted so I can concentrate on another exercise prescription theory assessment when little miss is at childcare tomorrow.

My physical activity will be at the AFL tonight, having written up a new warmup, some basic strengthening exercises/plyo and a new stretching routine to finish their session with. The challenge will be merging the new stuff into their existing training routine. I expect that their training session I don't attend will not have strength or plyo exercises so they are fresh for the weekend game.
