Lift, Train, Fitness

Whoa, 750 for a workout! I always skip benching in a fitness cause I'm afraid I get stuck when it's down on my chest. But it must feel powerful if you're good at it

It takes practice to get the technique for bench correct, start with the bar, or something lighter like the bar from a pump class or even just a broom handle, then once you have got the hang of technique and have built up some confidence then you can add weight slowly. The bench photo a few posts ago shows safety bars on the rack, when the weight gets heavy the safety bars are there to protect you if you fail.

Most people lifting for fitness are unlikely to reach true muscle failure, as you learn what your body is capable of then you will be able to recognise when to stop before momentary failure.

I wish all lifters would think and act like that.

Shit Shit Shit

they are evacuating the Bega valley again sooo many familly and friends in the area and the Canberra fire has been upgraded again, son 2 is currently working on the south side of the city, Sister in-law is confident his workplace will get evac order in plenty of time if he becomes at risk, and she and my brother have their evac plans in place.

Great to see your power cage equipment has finally arrived! :)

Editing: Oh no! I didn't see that update till after I hit "post". I hope your son - everyone, really - can stay safe. So much turmoil and horror already.

Oh, really? That bloody sucks!!!

it does, big time, If the Canberra fire gets deep into the suburbs like 2003 it will be horrendous, son 2 in working in one of the rebuild suburbs that was completely destroyed last time, in that fire my brother was working in the destroyed suburbs and ended up fight fire with garden hoses and carrying elderly people out of their homes.

In the Bega Vally, the Tantawangalo state Forrest is near inaccessible unless on horseback (I spent a lot of time riding one of my horses there) or motorbike and greenies stopped the clearing of fire trails.

made 98% of yesterdays nutrition targets, slightly over on protein with 128 grams rather than 120 so all good, all aminos accounted for, low on Vit D, forgot to take my D sups, cannot forget again today, my Dr will have his say about my D levels if I forget too often.

I was taught "sun on the skin for Vitamin D" - so I thought lack of it wouldn't be a problem for most of Australia?

What news of your son, and the fires?

I don't produce it, I wear shorts and T-shirts year round, and no sunscreen, but If I don't supplement my D levels plummet to a level described by my Dr as "that of a 90 year old woman in a nursing home who never sees the sun"

When I had my boy I did not supplement and had never had my D levels checked, but recent research show a link between low Vit D in pregnancy and Autism. my 3 boys are all ASD, little miss is normal and I had been supplementing prior to and throughout my pregnancy with her.

My boys are safe from the fires.

So my school health education was ... unsurprisingly, I suppose... oversimplified. It makes sense that whatever it is that bodies are often understood to do (produce their own Vitamin D, in this case) there'll be some bodies which don't fall into line. I also hadn't heard of the link between lack of Vitamin D and autism - which I suppose is now generally known, or at least to people pregnant or contemplating pregnancy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of this.

I'm very glad that your boys are safe from the fires.

I am not sure it is widely known yet, I am lucky I have a GP that is diligent about keeping up with the latest research.

That is really interesting research, Tru. Most people in Tas are low in Vitamin D. I have been taking a supplement for years now.

Warmup, 5 minutes skipping (55 met minutes)

Strength Training

20 minutes (90 met minutes)

Cardio

Stationary Bike

15 minutes ( 200 met minutes)

Cooldown

Cleaning (scrubbing) drinks fridge 15 minutes (67.5 met minutes)

412 MET minutes total

To translate this into calories burned, the formula is:

1 METs = 3.5 x weight in kg ÷ 200

1.9 X 412.5 = 783 calories for the workout in 31 degrees heat (yes it is still that hot here after dark.

And finally a bit of cardio working at 440 watts

just finished my food tracking, bad day way low on calories and protein, only had 80 grams of protein today.

That's really looking like everything's coming together! Congratulations! (on triumphing over terrible shipping companies, amongst other things)
