Life altering change, looking for support and friends along the way :)

Hello everyone,
I started a diet on July 20th 2009 and have since been on it and doing great! I exercise daily now and decide to make a change for the rest of my life by eating healthy and exercising regularly.

I'm currently sitting at 290lbs, I'm 5'10 and 24yrs old.

I used to eat burgers, greasy mexican foods, and regular cokes with no reguards to my health. I've tried dieting before, but i could never get too into it because my fiance just wasn't into it either. I got laid off, she left me, and moved back with her parents along with my beatiful twin girls and is unsure weather or not she wants to be with me still.

I made a lifelong promise to myself on July 20th 2009. That i would change my eating habbits FOREVER and have since been exercising regularly. I don't want a "lose 40lbs in "x" months diet" only to have it all come back once the "diet" is done. No, this change in eating is for the rest of my life and so is the exercise.

Socially, i have no other friends who exercise or diet and have no one to turn to for advice....until i found this forum. Everyone on here seems very helpful and encouraging and I would like to be a part of it! I want to lose the weight, and keep it off FOR GOOD! I realize i won't be fit in X months, but i do know i have the determination to put my heart and soul into it to reach my goal.

Some advice and tips are greatly appreciated, as i will post questions in their respective sections.

Thank you all for letting me be a part of this forum! :)

Hiya Tex ....

Congratulations on deciding to cut yourself a break man. :hurray:

Everyone here is obviously here for support, encouragement, information, etc etc

Just keep your eyes on the prize and before you know it you'll be exactly where you want to be - both inside and out.

TYVM :D

I know it will take some time to get to where i want to be, but i have nothing but time on my side :). By this time next year, i'm sure I'll be unrecognizeable in photographs, hard work and dedication is all I need to succeed!

You have a great attitude and with hard work will get the body that you want. Food control and regular exercise are both necessary - but we can all turn things around.

Get a free account from and log your food and exercise so that you can keep an eye on your calorie balance and monitor your nutrients so that you can hone things so that you eat really healthily and get the best rate of weight loss possible.

Hi Texastornado,

Hey, that's great enthusiasm you've got there!

But I gotta warn you, cutting down on fat can be frustrating, too. Expect to not see results right away. Be patient, and don't lose that initial drive and enthusiasm you have, alrightie?
