Lido's Diary - On My Way To The Beach!

Well, something must have gone right, or maybe it was just coincidence. After my first week of counting calories and trying to exercise more, ect I hadn't lost any weight, not even 0.1 lb. I was a little disheartened by it, though it could be because of the hundred pieces of pizza I ate that week. :p

Anyways, last week, not doing anything it seems I was able to lose about 0.5 lb. While that isn't a lot, it was nice to see a change on the scale! :hurray:

Breakfast: Frozen Melon Balls (60 calories)
Snack: 10 frozen strawberries (35 calories)
Lunch: 2 scrambled eggs (200 calories), 1 slice of ham (50 calories)
Snack: 1 Cheddar Rice Cake (40 calories)
Dinner: 4 slices of French toast (600 calories)

Total: 980 calories

Today was a great day. I went for a 2 km swim and a 30 minute walk also. Plus I ate healthy all day.

I'm having a hard time keeping this up. I need some motivation, so if you can offer me any I would be really thankful!

For the past 2 days, I have skipped breakfast, had a small snack around 10:00, that hasn't been entirely healthy. Then I get so busy that I end up skipping lunch, and then having a sandwich around 3:00 - Problem with that - I eat a lot of calories, probably about 700 or more in one shot, and that's all I eat all day. These past couple weeks I have been better - chosing not to have the cookies and pop (soda) that come with the meal at subway - but these past 2 days I have. Then I feel guilty and don't eat for the rest of the day.

I think my problem is that I really am too busy - it is nearly impossible for me to stop 3 times during a day to have a couple snacks and a lunch, and in the morning, I am so rushed because I sleep in, because I stay up late into the night trying to get everything done, so I don't eat breakfast in the morning either. It is a vicious cycle.

Here's a little story. A few years ago, I had the best year of my life. Looking back, there was not a whole lot different about my daily routine then there is now - my life then is the same as it was then, filled with swim practices (which now have been replaced with work at the pool), school, homework, and the computer for homework and socializing. It was the best year, but there was nothing extraordinary about it. I have since come to realize that it was such a great year, because the little things compiled to make each day great. I used to keep a diary as well, and I wrote nearly everyday. I continued this until about a year ago - when it just came that writing more then once a week became redundant - there were no small occurences that made life remarkable anymore, it was just the same old repitition, and the days blended together. And that is where I am now. I am not sure where the connection is, but somehow I feel that my lack of fufilment now with life, is related to my weight gain, and binge eating.

Any comments? Let me know - I could really use some extra support this week.

Hello Lido, I don't want to be a downer, but you said you are 17, right? So assuming that you are still in HS, and it is your last year?? I remember my last year being very hectic, they just loaded on a bunch more homework, and I found if I didn't keep on top and one step ahead than I'd fall behind. I had a job the year b4, but didn't keep it.

IDK if that is how it is with you, but trying to have a life along with that was tricky for me. Maybe it comes easier for you. I know some places in Calgary when I was 14 would let me work with a parent's permission, so I don't know how much that has changed now (when you were 14) So maybe 2-3 years ago you didn't have the load of "Extra" homework, and a Job, and your own swimming practices like you do now. Maybe you had more time for friends. And some breathing space..? to just relax? You seem to eat out ALOT, and that may play a roll in your savings from your job. I know you want to keep up with your friends cuz they always go out and eat (or that is how I remembered it when I was in HS+ I went to a Private School and the majority of the kids there had money all the time and they ate out EVERY SINGLE DAY)maybe that's not your case, it was mine, and you want to be a part of that group too?, but maybe there is another way you could balance it out? Or maybe that part is working out for you.

Where is a day during the week, possibly the weekend?, where you could devote a few hours to just you? Making Lunches and Healthier Snacks before hand...Planning meals for yourself throughout the week may help as well. Or on your nights, you could make the next day's lunch. You could prepare your breakfast too. Hey, you may even save a little bit more towards your gas or college or whatever your saving for. You could make a diary towards how much you spend per day on food alone when eating out.

You're busy because you're doing things for you and others, obviously, but Having The Time To Eat, is also giving something back for you too! Can you give yourself 5 mins in the morning? How about 10 mins at Lunch?? If you get sick while on duty in your job, who's it going to help? If you have nothing in your stomach and it's not feeding your brain where's your focus...on food?..on that headache?....on that stomach ache?....or the class??

I would say it's difficult for me to have ppl just give me motivation. I get inspired which Motivates me, but you need to find what is going to be YOUR Motivation. What Motivates you Lido? Where do you want to go? Where do you want to be?

And I feel your pain with those Combo's from Subway and Quizno's, you want to eat healthy, but you can't get the combo if you drop the pop and buy a milk, it's more expensive that way. UGH. Cuz they pay Zilch for their pop, for what they pay for their milk, blah blah blah, as I am sure you're well aware of.

You are done at the end of June? (for school) (maybe you're in College/Uni, so you'd be done this week, or next?) Are you going to continue working through the summer? Or other plans? Maybe you could ask for your hours at work to be cut back a little?

If you have troubles eating "Healthier Foods", don't sweat it, maybe just working on eating for now, throughout the day is YOUR goal. I eat a lot of Junk, and although I want to eat Healthier too, just eating at Breakfast, and Lunch is a challenge.

P.S. Sometimes to get more answers/opinions from others on here, it helps to cheer them on too, or comment in their diaries... I guess that could be difficult too, time consuming, maybe you need to take a look at your days, and make a pro's and con's list to what is more important to you. And where you could take some time off of certain activities so that you can have Breakfast or Lunch or Super.

Even with slower days, or days that don't look so good, just write them down anyways. Maybe after a few weeks, it might motivate you to change it up a bit.

Talk to ya Lata :seeya:
