Where do I start? I understand the desire for a quick fix, but faking the way your body looks sort of feels like cheating to me. (I'm guy...so.... I might not get it.... whatever) Also, for the most part, these things don't really ever seem to hide weight as well a woman might think.
One last thing. that really irks me. SKIN TIGHT JEANS MAKE WOMEN LOOK TRASHY. There I said it. Maybe I'll start a flame war, but I'm old school and I believe a little modesty and self respect go a long way. PS. I'm not a sexist or a guy with double standards. If you're a guy and you wear tight jeans, you really look like a moron.
Levi's Body-Shaping Jeans Are Latest Denim Innovation
Is there such a thing as the perfect pair of jeans?
In theory, dream denims should look like jeans and work like Spanx, simultaneously slimming your waist while boosting your backside. That's the idea behind Levi's new Revel denim line, which the company claims can actually alter the wearer's shape.
15 Everyday Tricks for Looking and Staying Slim
Levi's Revel line, which debuts in August, capitalizes on the popularity of shapewear as well as the brand's recent success with the figure-enhancing Curve ID collection. A new liquid technology used to treat the Revel jeans is supposed to adapt to curves for a leaner-looking physique.
It's chemistry, rather than biology. A chemical lining the inside of four-way stretch denim promises better body-contouring fabric—minus any intense, uncomfortable squeezing.
Best Jeans for Every Body Type
"Levi's Revel takes that curve innovation one step further by actively shaping a woman's body, giving her the legs and butt she always wanted," Jill Guenza, Levi's vice president of women's design, said in a press release. Guenza elaborated to Women's Wear Daily, saying, "It controls the stretch in those areas, much as compression wear does. But rather than using visible reinforced panels, we use the application of the liquid-stretch technology. The result is a jean that carves out the inner thigh, slims and smoothes the outer thigh, lifts the seat and flattens the tummy."
This technology is not the only trick up Levi's' pant leg. To further enhance the slimming effect, the brand employed techniques used by the late, great celebrity makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, for help with the placement of seams and whiskering details. "We looked at Kevyn Aucoin's books and how he made cheekbones look higher or noses look smaller," Guenza told WWD. "The seams we applied to our jeans act in concert to make the leg look longer and slimmer, the seat perkier and to move the eye away from the hips."
The Revel line will hit the Web on August 4, and then to stores internationally. The jeans are being made in indigo and black washes in three current Curve ID styles: slight, demi, and bold, depending on your desired level of shape enhancement. They'll all be available in both skinny- and straight-leg silhouettes and will retail for $98 to $128.
It's not the first promise of "miracle jeans." Denim technology (or, perhaps, denim marketing) has improved in recent years in response to consumer demand for improved fit over fashion whims. While Levi's technology may not be available yet, there are many other flattering denim styles that promise similar body-shaping qualities. Here are the best designs currently on the market for specific target area. A darker wash and higher rise is always more slimming and try ordering a size down—they are known to stretch.
Miraclebody Jeans - These come from the makers of Miraclesuit swimwear and contain twice as much spandex as your average denim along with Miratex fiber, which slims the body. These are the gateway to toned thighs without doing lunges. Prices range from $64 to $128.
Wizard Jeans - This British denim brand features bonding (a Spanx-like fabric bonded to the denim from the waist to the top of the thighs) and pocket control (to pull in and lift your stomach). Get a slimmer waist and hips without a magic wand. Prices range from $52 to $246.
NYDJ - Their patented Lift Tuck technology is designed to make women look and feel one size smaller. An interior crisscross panel flattens your stomach while smoothing and lifting in the back. If you're looking to whittle your waist, these are the jeans to try. Prices range from $84 to $140.
Yummie Tummie - Founder Heather Thomson may be one of the "Real Housewives," but she's a real designer first and foremost. The denim line, which launched in 2011, has a slightly higher rise and touts a stretch that "lifts and shapes, and never bags or sags." Prices range from $98 to $108.
SkinnyJeans - Scooped out legs help separate your thighs (less chafing!), while inseams are darkened and drawn forward to create the illusion of slimmer legs. Clean, carefully placed back pockets make your butt look smaller but shapelier, and a stretch waistband banishes muffin tops. Prices range from $149 to $188.
