Let's Re-Write Everything

why do you want to count calories; this is for life, right?

you need to eat most of your calories/meals from fresh fruits and veggies and whole grains. after that you need lean protein.

how does counting calories get you there?

by counting calories, you could eat someting like a candy bar for example, or an order of french fries, and then try to balance it out by not anyting else much all day..and probably still gain weight, or fail because you'd be hungry.....

i don't see how that's a life plan of healthy eating and good nutrition...

amen its not worth it to count calories unless your only eating healthy foods even then just eat in moderation and walk/jog/run i lost amazingly 10 pounds in a week with that. not likly for you but im friggin heavy so percent wise its not much

am i reading this right? increase calorie consumption when weight training? no wonder i feel really sluggish on tuesdays!

Counting calories gets you there because:
1. Eating too many "good" calories can still contribute to weight gain
2. Eating too little calories can put you into starvation mode
3. If you try to consume the proper amount of macronutrients (40% carbs, 30% protein, 20% fat), its necessary to know calories and grams of macronutrients to figure your percentages.

Yes, I agree.
To all of the previous posters about not counting calories, we're not saying to get obsessive over it. Once you figure out how much you eat in a day, you get used to it and don't really have to count too much unless you go out or binge.
I think counting calories is really important for those who want to get healthy - not just lose weight. It is possible to count w/o obsessing over it.

Exactly. You do not have to be fanatical about counting calories, just know approximately how much your taking in.
