Leg cramps after stairs... OUCH

I-will-lose!

Hey everyone! I have a question. Ok, normally i would try to do HIIT as best i can on my elliptical machine everyday M-F. Now i have been doing this for many months and i decided i will try something else. Yesterday i used my lil two step stairs from the back door and did BLEACHER like excercising. I basically went up with the left leg and then up with the right, then down with left leg and down with right leg. That sort of thing........anyways, now both of my calfs are sore. It feels like i just had leg cramps. So when ever i stretch out my leg, my calf muscle feels like the are tightening up and it hurts. Is this normal?

If you aren't used to the amount of strain you put on your calves, this sounds like something that'd happen.

ya i guess so since the elliptical does not put as much strain as the step excercise did. Man it still hurts. For the mean time im still doing resistance training but not aerobics as much yet.

Are you doing a warmup, and then stretching out before you do all of this?

I've read some studies that show "inconclusive evidence" as to if stretching can prevent injury, but I haven't ever seen any that outright prove that stretching has no change (positive or negative) on the outcome of your workout. Why not do it?

ya of course i always stretch before i do any workout and after im done. My pain is gone now. I think you were right about how my legs weren't used to the strain that i put on it with the steps.

Awesome about the pain being gone. Throw an update out next time you run stairs.
