Large fat guy just wanting to be large...

Hi guys, found the site while looking for before and after photos and I think I'll stick around, I'm really liking the vibe.
My name is Angus I'm 23 and I'm working full time as a primary school teacher in a Aboriginal community in remote Western Australia, although I'm originally from Sydney.

I'm 195cm tall with a large frame and although I've always had concerns with my weight, my large size has had people telling me that "I carry the weight easily" and "it's mostly muscle". Recently however I tipped the scales at 142kgs (310lbs) so I'm taking action! I've started calorie counting with an iPhone app (2200 a day) and it's going well, after one week I dropped 2kgs (just under 5lbs). I'm swimming laps in the town pool as I used to swim competitively at school, and although the town gym is little more than a shed with some dumbbells and a bike, I'll start going back there when it gets cooler (it regularly gets above 40 degrees C here!).

As my goal weight (115kgs) is higher than many people's starting weight, I was wondering if anyone had advice about whether I'm on the right track with my calorie and weight goals, or if there are other large framed success stories I could have a look at. I'll put some photos up on this thread soon so you can get an idea of my current size.

Anyway, that's enough from me, cheers guys!

Welllll, I worked out this for a guy of your height and weight (and exercising 3 times a week) using this website:

Maintenance:
3460 Calories/day
Fat Loss:
2768 Calories/day
Extreme Fat Loss:
2499 Calories/day

Looks like you could be eating a little bit more but maybe see how the first few weeks go and then up it later on. Or give yourself between 2200-2700 depending on days that you exercise, etc.

Hey thanks for replying Sunflower! Wow both those calorie amounts seems like a lot, since starting on my 2200 calorie limit i've actually struggled to eat that amount during the day. It seems most of my previous calories came in big lumps from unhealthy snacks and meals, the change of diet has had a big impact on my intake.

The weight loss rate seems pretty steady (3kgs in 3 weeks) so I'll stick with the current limit and exercise routines, but i'll try to get as close to that limit as possible each day using healthy snacks.

Also I've uploaded some pics, with any luck i'll have some in between pics up in a month or so, thanks again!

Would love to see your pictures after a couple of months into your died and workout. Eating healthy and leaving the junk food behind makes a lot of difference.

One step at a time.

Welcome to the Forum and good luck to you!

Hey tehgusbus, welcome to the forum!

I would say stick with what you're currently doing (2200 cals per day) if that's been working for you so far. Just make small changes and in no time, you'll see even more results!

I think your weight goal of 115 kgs is great for now! I would even suggest breaking that into smaller goals and giving those goals a realistic time frame. Once you reach 115 kgs you can reassess how you feel about your weight at that point, then decide if you still want to lose more, or if 115 kgs is enough for you. Either way, as long as you stick with the healthy eating and exercise habits that you develop along the way, you will be in a healthier state that you were before you started :)
