Hi Everyone. 31 year old female here.

I was 190 pounds in 2007

I am currently 172.

I would like to be 130.

I've tried juice feasting/fasting (10 days) only to gain back all the wait within the same number of days I juice fasted. Felt great during the juice fast though and never physically hungry (just some mental cravings). As soon as I got some salt and fiber and fat back into the diet, I gained back the 9 pounds I lost.

My fitness is at a low point. I've joined a gym and will be starting to put some cardio back in my life starting tomorrow. I'll feel very lucky if I can manage 30 minutes.

I know that many people say that exercise is not necessary for weightloss but I feel like I need to really restrict my calories if I want to lose weight by diet alone. I just can't eat or live like that.

I take Topiramate for migraines which off label promotes weight loss. I don't know if it staves hunger or actually makes one burn calories more efficiently or is just simply a diuretic. I'm weaning myself off of this drug as I don't have the headaches anymore since I lost the first 25 lbs. I actually haven't taken it for a month now and I feel ok.

I hope I can one day proudly post photos in the Before/Inbetween/After forums. Thanks for reading.

Any tips would be helpful.

I joined the gym a few days ago and have been going everyday. I'm doing all cardio right now. Revolving these exercises:

30 minutes on the elliptical

20 minutes on treadmill (brisk walk, 3.5% incline, 3.9 mph) - last 5 minutes I take it up to 4.1 and jog on a 1% incline

I want to get to the erg soon, but that's a really difficult workout for me and I usually can't do more than 5 minutes. I have to work up to it.

I feel like I'm starting from ground 0. I'm glad I decided to get into the gym after such a long time because my mood has been elevated, I already sleep deeper and wake up refreshed at 6 am (usually I have to force myself out of bed), and my leg muscles are 'coming back'

My appetite has increased but I am controlling what I eat since I want to lose weight.

Will check in soon.

I've always heard that weight loss is much more about diet than it is about exercise, and I'm sure that's true in terms of net calories? For instance, you can cut out a lot more calories from your diet by eating lower calorie foods than you can by eating the same amount of calories you always have and trying to exercise more to burn more. I hope that makes sense! I still put equal importance on exercise, however, just because I feel much less inclined to dig into the ice cream or tear open a bag of cookies after a good 1 hour workout. I suppose it's just more psychological help, IMO. But it also aids in increasing metabolism and getting you strong and getting your heart healthy!

Starting from ground 0 is always hardest. I remember when I first started running, I hated every minute of it, but if you can just get through the first few days then it starts to get easier and easier then you start to feel the benefits of it (more energy, better night's sleep, etc.) Just keep at it!

Thanks for your reply!

I feel much better going to the gym. I look forward to exercise. The actual work I put into the treadmill is something I used to be overly concerned with -- ie "how many calories am I burning?"

but I'm slowly letting it go. The overall benefits are more my concern now. I feel better during the day and I can get away with eating more food, not starving, and still seeing weight loss results. I realize the rapid weight loss will slow down since I am in the early stages but I will take what I can get right now.

Start weight: 172

Current weight: 166

goal weight: 130

height: 5'6"

I eat three meals a day. breakfast is fiber one (regular twigs) with almond milk. lunch is a salad with baby spinach, tomatoes, sunflower seeds, egg whites, carrots, red cabbage, oil, vinegar, pepper, cottage cheese. dinner: protein shake with banana.

I'll post more updates soon.

The exercise will have many positives and can get to be a positive addiction for some people. My cousin suffers from migrains and she began an exercise program and they greatly reduced.
