Hi

I posted that I had knee pain.. I took rest, took anti inflamatory tablets.. which dint work :( went to on orthopedic and he looked at the xray and prescribed glucosoamine ,chondroitin and msm tablets..i found that i no more have knee pain when i sit long hours after havin the tablets for a month (my job involves alot of sitting for long hours) ...

i stopped running (which i am passionate about) its been 3 months!! i have put on weight.. i want to get back on track..

anyone else had similar problems with the knee? how did u get back to being fit again..

what does the doctor say about what you are able to do with regards to exercise?

there's plenty of low impact exercise that you could do... even walking I'd imagine.. but you should really be talking to the doctor first... you don't want to do any damage to yourself

i asked the doc if i can run again

he said I can*maybe he thought I was talking long term*.. but I felt I couldn't as my knee was feeling weird at that time.I have a torn sensation in my knee so I decided not to exercise. He told me to continue having the tablets for 6 months and so some knee strengthening exercises.

He told me to avoid bending my knee too much. (thats vague!)

Its been 3 months,I still have this torn sensation in my knee but there is no weird feeling -like my knee is hard to move.I think the tablets have improved the mobility of my knee..

I just want to know what to do to get back on track with my weight loss regimen.I made a huge mistake of increasing the intensity of running over the treadmill all of a sudden.. I continued to do it 2 days straight even though I had pain.. oh well Im paying for it :( anyways this time I want to take it slow..any advice on what could start off with and how long would be helpful -thanks

what are some of the knee strengthenin exercises that they gave you?

Avoiding bending the knee too much - I agree is vague - does that mean bicycling is out?

What about the elliptical?
swimming?

What about walking?

Yep, lots of knee problems here.

My doctor gave me a prescription for physical therapy, which helped A LOT. I cannot say how much this made a difference.

I tried to "fix" my knee by exercising less. Then, not exercising (because it wasn't getting better). I tried anti-inflammatories, and that didn't make much of a difference either. The Physical Therapy REALLY does work, and if it doesn't, they'll be able to tell you what's wrong.

HIGHLY recommend it.

I just finished two weeks ago (had a business trip last week) and now, I'm back on taking care of my knee on my own. I learned a lot on how to do this, and I'm planning on keeping it up and finally, being able to go back to the gym (yeah, the business trip packed on a couple of pounds!).

Ask for the script. It really will make a difference.

I was diagnosed with chondromalacia a few years ago myself. The ortho gave me 2 days of PT, to learn to do exercises to strenghten my quads. Didn't help much, I already knew what he told me. My solution to pain while running was to get a patella band. I didn't think it would work, but it does. I never run without it anymore. You need to listen to your doctor though. I agree that he has been very vague in terms of what you can and can't do, so I would ask him to be more specific. I've read that biking helps with chondromalacia. Good luck!
