"killed" my breakfast today

so, I am traveling again for work right now, and it gets pretty tough to eat healthy on the road, especially when taking clients, etc. to lunch and dinner. If they don't start eating the appetizer, I have to get it going by eating some, etc....:nopity: -haha.

Anyway, this morning, I went to get my normal breakfast. 2 eggs, a slice of lean ham, and broccoli... now, I eat the broccoli to make me full. That is my low-calorie, high-volume component of my breakfast. Today the guy comes back and says... "here you go sir, we were out of broccoli so we gave you some bacon, extra ham, and another egg"... I was thinking... thankkkkksssssss.... (pause)..

Now, one of my major problems is that I have to eat what's on my plate... It's not that I feel like I have to prevent being wasteful, it's just a momentum thing. If it's on my plate, and it's in front of me long enough, I WILL eat it.. not good. I was staring at this bacon (and I freakin' love bacon), and the extra eggs (there were a lot) and thinking... crap, this is a couple hundred calories more than I normally eat..

so... I did it... I took the salt shaker and BURIED about 30% of the food on my plate in salt... It was awesome... now, I wsa still looking at the bacon, and after 5 minutes of reading the paper, I STILL took a bite and blahhhhhh.. almost yacked.

My question: Has anyone else "killed" their food like this? What other ways do people prevent eating everything on their plate? I am just not good at portion control, so I need to remove myself from the desire. As I sit here and type this, I am 110% full, but I know I would have eaten the rest of my food if given the chance. Ugh.:smilielol5:... alright, I am interested to see what people do

AHAHA! That's awesome. I bury mine under the napkin and try to hide it... sometimes that works. I've never considered 'assalting' it like that before!

Mostly I try not to get the extra tempting food but... this restaurant sounds like sadists! LOL - we were out of broccoli so we're subbing bacon, ham & eggs. In your case, I probably would have just eaten it and asked for some fruit too... :leaving:

bahahah... a-salt-ing it... that's clever :)... seriously though, when people go to a place that serves monster portions, someplace that gives you 2000 calories worth of food, how to people stop from eating it? I don't get full till about 30 minutes after I stop eating, that is just my stupid body not working correctly. This salt idea is awesome (to me, I am sure others are thinking.. idiot haha)... but I need a way to "ruin" the rest of an oversized meal. I am only talking about places that you have no control over the amount of the food that you are going to be getting!!!

I don't eat out much at all but when I do this is honestly what I do: I tell them to only bring me half portions. If they look at me like I'm cyclops and say for some strange reason that they don't do that, then I just have them put half in a to-go box and half on my plate.
If they already brought you a mega plate, then ask for the box and immediately put a lot away and out of site.

I have "killed" my meal before though. It wasn't on purpose. I did it the same way you did. I added far too much of a condiment and it was completely inedible.

The last time we went out, my husband and I ate at a Greek restaurant. We bought one meal, asked for two plates, and split it lol

...but this probably isn't what you're talking about.

no, Emerald... that is a good idea (splitting).. but what happens for me on business trips, or when I am at home, is that I will get some food to go, and then I will end up eating the left-overs that same night...

Really, I just love food in general.. all of it :)...

I "killed" my food intentionally, so I wouldn't eat the rest of it... I know it's wasteful, and I am sure people think it's stupid, but I will just keep eating :p

Sometimes I ask them to bring a "to-go" box out with my meal and I separate half of the items out into the box first then eat the rest on my plate. Save the rest for another meal later. That way, you're both controlling your portions and clearing your plate. And you have a meal for later ready to eat.

lol I see. I think you're idea is great too lol

I tell myself.... my dog would really enjoy this!
and he always does!
I don't give my dog people food very often, so it's fun to watch him scarf down my leftovers. He's happy, and I'm happy that he's happy. win - win

I've done the same thing with Tabasco sauce. Put some food on the sauce, and poured a very generous helping of Tabasco sauce over the rest, which totally kept me from eating it.

It hurts though, especially when it's in a restaurant. Because it's paid for, and I'm wrecking it :(

Asking for a half portion or small portion usually works though. I'm quite honest when people ask, and most of them are rather understanding and even curious sometimes. The one time I was at a hotel, I just left them a note with what I wanted for breakfast, and that I didn't want anything more than that. It worked. :)

You could always box it up and leave it on the table so they'll just think you're some forgetful dude ;)

That is the best idea ever! I will be a-salt-ing food I don't want to eat or bring my dogs from now on! I'm surprised I never thought of it...but I am sure glad you did! :)
