KidSkwids Journal

damn...

Well today has been great, I ate 6 spread out meals, all with fresh fruit or veg, drank 2 glasses of water with each meal, not smoking not rinking beer, I feel better just from that alone!

I really like the stronglift 5x5 routine BigTom...It's really clear and Mehdi has put a lot of effort into making a begginer feel comfortable.

I now have goals, diet plans, and some extra great advice from that site.

Whats really bugged me, only in the last 10 minutes was my friend. I guess you would call him a neysayer or whatever it is. He's ace, but for some reason he was trying to give me kinda negative vibes about doing the strength training, totaly bigging up other forms of strength training, but for some reason the Gym idea wasn't his bag, I don't know, even though it's only his opinion, in my head, i've been building myself up to give this a really big go, I NEED to, I can't do this half heartedly.
I've tried. If I dont eat well, drink beer, smoke, I may as well not do ANY of it right.
I need to fully immerse mself, like a hoby, or i know i'll have less chance of getting this right.

I feel my mind is strong at the moment, I need to act on that.

Why is there a negative association with gyms anyway, I wish he could have just been supportive for what I wanted, and not what he thought was best for me. Grrr.

Sorry had to get that off my chest.

On a lighter note, I cooked some Swordfish steak tonight...wow.

So let me get this right...Your mate is saying negative things about joining a gym as though its a bad thing?

F**k that, i seriously can't think of anything negative about the gym. They are full of helpful people, good motivation and can make new friends and socialise.

Your doing well so far, reading into things, doing research, and putting in action! Well done keep it up!

31st July 2009

Wow. Thats all I can say.

After 3 days of cutting out all the crap and pretty much going toxin-cold-turkey, I cant tell you how bouncy I felt today. I still got up late (like 10AM) but that was my own fault for staying up till 3AM.

So much energy man, eating accross the whole day just keeps you energised, you can feel your body burning energy just because you're so 'high' gor want of a better word.

Handed the money over at the Gym and got the card, and a padlock for the lockers...lol and having an hour meeting with one of the guys tomorow morning to go over my plan, eating etc.

Had a look a thte weights they had first, and they have 2 power? some benches, and what seemed like a wide selection of plates.

Took an apple and some cottage cheese into town with me for a snack, tasted better than I thought!

Thanks to everyone so far big up to all,

Matt

Gym

Had my induction/chat today at the Gym.

We talked about what I wanted/golas/routine etc, and I mentioned the 5x5, which he was totaly cool with, apart from he was worried that it might get boring for me.

This is what he suggested:

Push Day

  • Squat 5X5
  • Bench 5X5
  • Push Press 5X5
  • Dips 5X5
  • 3 X Exercises (Chinups, pushups etc) 3X10

Pull Day

  • Squat 5X5
  • Row 5X5
  • Chins 5X5
  • High Pull 5X5
  • Shrugs 5X5
  • 3 X Exercises (Chinups, pushups etc) 3X10

He didn't seem to have as much an emphasis on building up heaviness in small, regular incriments, but I think thats something I could bring in.

He did say that I had really great technique for first time, which made me happy :)

He also suggested I focussed monstly on training for a few weeks, and get better at my eating nutrition later (less things to start to learn) but you know, I think I'll ignore that and carry on the healthy eating picked up from these sites.

So all in all, great! The best thing is the feeling now...a bit achey, but not too much, I can really feel it in my calfs and shoulders...maaan.

I suggested lifting weights to Jazz, which didnt go down well :-D

Hows that workout look to you guys? It's not stronglift 5X5, but maybe thats something I could do after I get used to exuipment a little more?

Peace

To answer your questions in the pic's section. Yup I used workouted THAT much and continued it for a long time and still pretty active now; probably over 20 hours a week doing active things (gym, hike, play ball, etc). Initially, I did it to thwart off smoking. Along with the smoking, came a lot of free time b/c I was avoiding the scenes (pubs, clubs) that promotes and cued me to smoking. I just used that time to workout / read instead.

I will try to get a progress picture up soonish; been really busy with r/l stuff atm. Good luck and stay on the golden path. Here is a tabit of quitting smoking, dieting, life in general: If you slip and fall off the wagon, it's not the end of the world just hope back on the horse and continue (do not binge out with smoking a pack if you've only some one, forgive yourself and move on).

2 Week Progress

Hi again all, sorry I've been a bit quiet. I was jollying it at the Big Chill in Hereford...kinda like a Woodstock in th UK :)

Below are some pictures of 2 weeks worth of weights and eating proper. It's not a huge difference, but I think I can see improvements?

I have'nt eaten bread since I started either, which I think has cut down on the bloatedness I feel alot.

Eveything is feeling tighter, and my stomach doesn't 'feel' as far out as it did, if that makes sense!

Anyway, more positive than my last attempt last year, thanks to everyone so far :)
