kidney stones

You don't get them from eating too much of something, at least, not specifically.

You get them from faulty organs and urine. Usually excess Y* would be removed from your system via piss. If it's not removed it crystallises, if it keeps happening, the crystals all join together and become stones.

Diet does play some part, but mostly it's got to do with what's going on inside you, so there is no general diet to follow, you have to know how your own body is processing whatever you are putting into it.

*Y being whatever the stones are made of.

kidney stones tend to form when there is excessive amounts of insoluable salts in the urine, or from insufficent fluid intake that cause the urine to be overly concentrated.75%of kidney stones are made up of calcium salts and the remainder are of uric acid, magnesium ammionium phosphate, or oxcalates. leading causes are inadequate fluid intake or parathyroid tumor, or when the urine is increased in alkilinity and infection causes the stones to form from debris form the infection and collects the salts causing the stones.. its not a protein thing at all. I would guess it is due to not drinking enough and if you have been ill that would add to it as well. some vegitarian diets can be a factor too.. hope that helps :)

Btw this is info that is in any path or med books for health care professionals.. if you need anymore info or if I didn't make it clear enough just let me know.. you can pm me if you'd like, there are different treatment options but that depends on how bad they are... good luck they are a real pain to pass!! hope you feel better soon. :)

If anyone want me to write that in the wally version it means this

Everbody gets them, drink plenty of water and they will be broken up and washed away while they are tiny. but dont drink water and you'll be passing bricks.

Because of the amount of nerve endings in the area, passing a kidney stone is the most painfull thing a human can feel. more painfull that being shot, or giving birth.

ok I wil disagree on one point manofkent, sorry. ddrinking tons of water will not break up the crystles, it will prevent you from getting more though. If you can not pass them on your own there are other treatments. But I thing we can def agree on is that passing them hurts like a bugger. ok well more than a bugger. think of it this way they are shaped like little crystles (thats what they are) with little pointy bits all over then, kinda like little deer antlers... yes pain, brought my brother to his knees and into emerg when he passed his and he is a tough guy, he literally could not walk until after they passed. Watch for signs of infection as well- fever etc.. good luck!!

Ok cool.

BTW jen - im doing 1st aid at work training with the St Johns ambulance. that will make my application stronger.

Wayy Cool Manofkent thats awesome. I'm only a short time from grad myself. yahoo and I'm also taking an I.V. certification too.. so I hope that you get in soon. keep looking over the stuff i sent you. went you get in I'll help ya out as much as I can :D cheers mate

Yeah I have been.
They are gonna do me a deal, Im gonna go back once a week for 4 weeks to help out as a helper, and they will give me defib training for free. Its usually £1,000.
So thats pretty handy.

aparently you can be defib trained in 8hours, is that true?

yep there are only two rythms we shock and they are easy to recognize and the machine should advise you to shock if there is no pulse. mine doesn't but i'm trained in ecg interpretation. but for first responders it tell you what to do etc. its really easy , just don't touch the patient and beware they jump pretty good too. so leave some space. that awesome keep me updated. :D
