Kettlebell and walking

I am new at this. I am almost 30 and weight 225, I am 5'5". I use to weigh 120 before kids. I was addicted to pop, a 2 liter a day at least, no water. Well in the past 3-5 months I have gained 30-40 lbs and clothes are tight. Me and my hubby have decided to start working out. I bought a 10 lb kettlebell and have borrowed kettlebell work out dvd's from a coworker. We are also walking at least 3 times a week, a mile each time and its done in 15-20 minutes depending on how cooperative the dogs are. I also bought a pedometer and I walk at least 2.5 miles a day at work.

We have changed our diet too. I don't drink pop anymore. We have cut down on our portions and no more snacking especially late at night. We eat proportional servings for dinner and no seconds. I still have 2 cups of coffee in the morning if not I get caffeine deprivation headaches...lol. we are drinking water with the crystal light flavoring less than 5 cals, I use half a pack.

I am still new at this, we started our diet last Wednesday. I am hoping it is easier to stick to since our whole family ( me hubby and 2 kids) are doing it together.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? With the walking we are going to work up to jogging. I have been pretty sedentary for the past 12 years and I am new to working. Thanks.

I apologize for the segue, but I'm hoping to get your opinion of the kettlebell so far? I was looking at them at Target last night but wanted to do some research before buying one. Figure a first-hand opinion would be good, too! :)

I am not familiar with kettlebell but I have to say that you are on the right track. Just keep on doing what you have been doing and be sure to have self control and consistency.

Walking is a good way to burn calories. Also, you might want to do some swimming or do badminton with your hubby.

I think you are on a great start! Cutting out (diet) soda was more difficult than quitting smoking for me, but its literally made me feel a TON better. Keep up with the water too! They say at least 2oz per pound, so aim for a gallon a day.

Other than what you said, my only personal recommendation is to include high protein food into your diet. I eat chicken a LOT. Its a very satisfying food, and it keeps me full until the next meal. That means its a LOT easier to avoid snacking :D

Most important thing is to STAY MOTIVATED! Make it a goal to stick with it for a week, then 2 weeks, then a month. After a while, it really does become second nature. Just need to get over that first bump! :p

Thanks. I get a craving for pop but then I remember the 3 lbs (total as of today) I have lost. I hope I can lose a decent amount by summer.

Congrats on the 3 lb loss. Its a small start to a big loss. Your on the right track!

Woohoo!
