Kettleballs?

I see them at the store, and I've heard celebs contribute their toned bodies to these rounds weights with handles, but has anyone had any experience with them?

Yes, I find they're pretty fun to use. Certain exercises, like swings, just feel right with kettlebells. What'd you want to know?

I would like to know...

Are they worth purchasing? And you could always give me some sample workouts to keep me from browsing the internet endlessly for more information ;) Thanks so much!

Just about any dumbbell friendly workout can be used with kettlebells. What you're gaining with kettlebells is the instability of having the weight beyond or behind the end of your arm. If you have them locally, I'd suggest taking 'em for a test drive. More likely than not you'll be using an 8, 12, or 16kg bell.

Hmmm so purchase, two?

You can get an excellent workout with a single bell if it's heavy enough. You could get, say, a 4 and a 12, or an 8 and a 16 - that way you'd be able to do exercises that require lighter weights (like shoulder raises, turkish getups) as well as the heavier bell for stuff like swings, squats etc.

Hmm...thanks for the info! That's what this Forum is all about!!! Yay!

Here's my current routine done with kettlebells - I can do the exact same workout with dumbbells.

A Turkish Getup 2x5@8 (each side)

B One-Arm Swings 2x10@20 (each side)

C Core Push Press + Goblet Squats 1x10@20, 1x5@20 1x5@16, 1x5@20 1x5@16

D One Arm KB Pullover - 1x12@8, 2x12@12 (each side)

E1 Front Squat + High Pull 3x12@20 (each side)
E2 Front Squat + Lateral Raise 3x12@8 (each side)

F1 Pushups 3x10@BW (each side)
F2 Row 3x10@20 (each side)

i think their great to use as Stingo has already pointed out...easy, and amazing for warm-ups, cardio, throwing etc.

Doing KB swings and windmills are proof enough of the benefits, however, I never have a training program designed around KBs alone. Just another tool in the shed. You can find LOTS of information online with the amount of exercises you can do with these that you can't necessarily do with DBs.

my warm-up consists of swing: 2-arm and 1-arm.

also working on a compound set of exercises.

1 set: 1-arm Clean to front squat to push press to overhead squat to windmill -- repeat for the other arm with no rest.

*takes notes* - I may just have to try that one of these days. Looks like a good superset. And yes, kettlebells are just one way of achieving your goals. There are certain things exercise-wise that are just plain cool - doing Olympic lifts with color bumper plates on the oly bar, doing unassisted pull-ups or chin-ups, and doing swings with a kettlebell. I do #3 regularly - hoping that will be the same for #1 and #2 eventually.
