Ketosis

Something I've been noticing after I have a really good workout I tend to get the smell of alcohol, kind of in the back of my throat. I first thought it was something they were cleaning the bathroom at the gym with and then I noticed it other times as well and it always occurs after a really hard workout. So today I was doing some reading on ketogenic diets for weight loss and it mentioned ketosis and how acetone can be a by product of metabolising fat. I'm wondering then is this what has been causing me to smell this after my workouts, and does it indicate anything to be worried about. I mean is it normal?

Thanks

My son is a type 1 diabetic. Ketosis is a condition that we were told by the doctor to avoid at all costs. The Atkins diet actually encourages ketosis in starving the body of directly consumed carbohydrates. So it all depends upon what you are eating and whether blood glucose levels are derived from the food you eat or by energizing fat reserves. Say more about your diet.

I shoot for about 40% protein, 30 fat and 30 carbs. With the fat being unsaturated and never trans as much as possible and I mostly have unrefined carbs like oatmeal and brown rice or sweet potatos. Some days I eat well below my daily requirements, like I'll have a bowl of soup at lunch then finish work at 5:30 and so to the gym without eating because I hate working out with food in my stomach. It's usually days like this where I get this strange smell. Whether it's ketosis or not I'm just wondering how common this is or if I'm the only one.
