How much weight do you want to lose? Drum roll.....Well I currently weigh 294lbs!!! as for how much I would like to lose..... enough to be healthy! Do I need to set a certain amount?!!

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
Within the next year.....

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?

I am planning to go to the gym three times a week, plus alot of walk/jogging

I would love to be able to jog the 10k next May!

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? - I need to find my motivation again, I like seeing the weight coming off the scales, although I don't ever really see it when I look in the mirror! The feeling of clothing become baggier...

How realistic is your goal? I hope they are realistic enough for me to stick to.... I like the gym once I'm there, its just the inital thought!

So there you have the start of my journey... any thoughts or suggestions would be gratefully recieved

Hey welcome :)
So glad you could join us.
I think your 10km goal is such a fantastic idea.
You should maybe set an initial weight loss goal to keep you motivated. I've found that setting small weight loss goals is motivating.

Good luck.

Hi, and welcome to the forum :)

I like that you have mostly indeterminate goals (except the running, which, I agree with Carrie, is excellent!), rather than "I must lose x by y".

Do you have any strategies that you'd like to try to help you lose weight? I'm a calorie counter, and it's working incredibly well for me.

Thanks for the messages.

I think I'm just going to have to take it stone by stone! but I would hate to set a certain weight, as that might simply be realistic for me and my body shape.

I am rubbish at counting calories, I lost three stone in 2009 by watching what I eat, No bread :( and lots of gymtastic fun and walking... so I'm going to try that again

What went wrong with counting calories? I'm as much curious as anything else (I don't want to preach at you), I've been a horrible dieter in the past and this has been so easy for me. (I've done "watching what I eat", and to me it not only led to mistakes and thus little/ no weight loss because I didn't understand the importance of calories- I had no idea how bad bread was, it's "good for you", right?- but also a lot of binging because I deprived myself of the food I love)

Yeah my problem with calorie counting is feeling like I'm depriving myself of the food I love, and I just don't find it sustainable!

I am much better and just healthy eating (which to be honest is what I normally eat) I'm just bad when it comes to comfort eating and the drinkie drinkie...

When I lost the weight I didn't feel as though I was on a "diet", which I think is one of the most important things with me..... diet has bad associations from my childhood etc

Fair enough. Sounds almost exactly the opposite to me though. ("Eating healthily" is a recipe for disaster for me, because I deprive myself of the food I love for weeks, then binge. On calorie counting, I eat chocolate almost every day). And if you're not eating in a way that's sustainable, it sounds like you might be eating the wrong amounts or thinking about this the wrong way- I could quite happily calorie count for the rest of my life, I'm losing weight easily and I think I eat better than I used to!
