Karate

My bestfriend is a blackbelt in Karateand if I'm really lucky he's gonna start teaching me. BBut I have no idea what karate actually is appart from a martial art that I fell over when he was trying to teach me a basic kick.

So in short, what areas will this help me with? And isn't it great that he may do it?

what areas it helps depends greatly on how he will teach you.
im no expert on karate, but its a striking art, so mostly kicks and punches pluss maybe some grappling (ground fighting) techniques.

it will probobly help your cardio alot, again, depending on how you do it. i guess you will have to practice the techniques, maybe sparring with him, that will definitly be a good cardio workout.

Cardio...that's your heart right?

Yeah, he's training me so he can have a sparing partner, because no one else he knows stuck with it, so they're no match for him really, and he knows not only will I stick with it, but I'ld gladly kick his ass or get mine kicked in good natured fun.

yeah, cardio is your heart, like jogging, bycycling and stuff like that is cardio exersices. so i guess karate is mostly cardio. it could be he makes you do pushups and situps and such, then it will also be muscle training, but i guess since he is your friend he can do it the way that is best for you.

Cardio is all dependant on how you train. Most karate training is very anaerobic with spurts and blasts of activity with droughts of inactivity. It can be practiced as cardio, but normally in a learning environment it isn't. When you practice it can.

Karate is going to help you with flexibility, balance, hand-eye coordination, and if taught right, speed, power, and the ability to defend yourself if your ever attacked.

ahhh. So cadio later on, but not while I'm training. Ok. I'm happy now. Cuz balance, co-ordination and flexability are all things I want towork on.

no you can use it for cardio, just string techniques together when you practice. During actual lessons however, there is a lot of watching and having knees, feet, hands positioned correctly.

i agree with aevans on that, with the cardio i was mostly thinking about when you actually practice the techniques in sparring and such, which imo is very importaint if you want to be able to actually use it in self defence.. its gotta be automatic movements, if you stop to think when a fist is on its way to your fance, you got a problem:p

Karate is a Martial Art that involves balance, speed, power, and accuracy. I haven't practiced it, But I do have general information on litteraly every martial art, Karate as combat that will take time and determination to achieve what's aquired for a black belt or even closer. Sexy Silver as a biggener, you will need to work allot on you're balance and point of accuracy. Balance is probably the most practiced exerscise in every Martial Art, as a benefit it will help you with you're kicking as you come across the round kick that invloves allot of balance, now am not saying you should go on the side of you're rooftop and stand on one foot at the edge for one hour, and see if improved you're balace skill, no. But an exercise I recomend, standing on one leg while the other is folded in a ninety degree angle along with knee, do that exersice for well over a month, and you see some significant change.
