11:43 AM, slightly hungry- Toasted seeds (watermelon, pumpkin, sunflower), green apple fruit noodles (100% apple fruit), apple

1:50 PM, hungry - Sandwich (2 slices 49% wholegrain wholemeal wheat flour bread, 100% peanut butter), banana

6:00 PM, hungry - Mum’s curry and pasta (ate till fill and drank water with meal)

6:35 PM - Small slice of homemade orange chocolate cheesecake

I really need to watch dinner portions.

Hi Kara and welcome to the diaries! May I ask how old you are/what you do all day? (Work, school?) I didn't even know watermelon seeds were edible (as opposed to just non-toxic).
Best of luck on your journey,
LaMa.

Hi. I am 16 and at school all day. Got exams coming up in a few weeks, so I have got to study for those. After that I will start taking the dog for a walk

7:17 AM - Porridge (1/2 cup rolled oats, blue milk) mixed with 2 sliced bananas

11:20 AM - Toasted seeds (watermelon, pumpkin, sunflower), apple, banana

1:50 PM, hungry - Sandwich (2 slices 49% wholegrain wholemeal wheat flour bread, lettuce, garlic hummus), banana

4:06 PM - Slice of cheese (Edam)

6:35 PM, hungry - Mum’s curry (ate till slightly full, drank lots of water)

8:40 PM - 1 1/2 almond milk cream Tokyo Banana star

9:46 PM - Glass of store squeezed 100% Valencia orange juice

No exercise for today

Your food sounds ok if you ask me (although I find it hatd to gauge quantities from what you write). If you're studying for exams I would advise you to get up for the last five minutes of every hour and do something active (depending on your fitness level: walking around the table, getting up from a chair slowly 50 times in a row, jumping jacks...). That way your brain gets more oxygen and your muscles keep burning more energy.

Hi, Kara & a belated welcome to the forum. LaMa has some good suggestions re adding a little exercise even into your study. Any exercise you throw in will help your brain to work better as well. Try adding some almond meal or nut mix to your breakfast porridge to add a little protein, which will be more filling. I have almond milk with mine.

Ok thanks for the advice. Every now and then I may add an egg to my porridge, but I will try some nuts

6:42 AM - Floradix iron tablet

7:35 AM - 4 Weetbix, blue milk, sliced banana

It takes a few days to develop a habit.
Keep it up
If you can work in increases activity you will up your metabolism. I can walk 500 to 700 steps in 5 minutes.
I am trying to do this at work. By spreading this throughout my day, my weight loss has been greater than when I just dieted alone and walked only in the evening.
Everyone is different. You gotta find what works for you!

Hello. Haven’t posted in a while as so busy. Just wondering are there any good foods to eat before a meal to help regulate blood sugar when eating lots of white food such as rice, as my mom cooks this for dinner. I was thinking maybe chia seeds. Also how do you know how much of a serving to eat in foods like homemade fried rice, noodles and wontons as my mum normally cooks these for dinner

Ask your mom what she puts into the food (including and especially oils/butter), add up the calories and divide by however much you think you´ll be eating to see how much you´re having. Adding fiber helps to slow down the absorption of the simple carbs; I´d suggest having a side salad of leafy green veg.

Hello. I have finally finished exams and now it’s the holidays! Will seriously try to lose weight. The only problem is my mum does not buy leafy green veges. I think it’s to expensive? The only veges I have in my house are cucumbers and tomatoes. It’s really sad as most of the time my mum refuses to buy food like this. Like the other day I asked her to buy some lentils but she refused. She also does not want me to go out and buy my own food so I guess I just have to do with what I have got

Depends on the kind of greens. Lettuce tends to be dirt cheap (depending on where you live, of course). Having a big chunk of cucumber with your meal isn´t bad either but if you´re 16 you should have some input on what you´re eating. At least as long as you´re prepared to put in the extra effort to make your part of the meal.
Have you discussed this outright with your mom? Is she supportive of your weight loss goal in general? Sometimes I feel like I´ve been giving so many hints and people really can´t not know exactly what I mean and yet they haven´t got a clue until I´m preposterously direct. I don´t know your family situation (mom still hanging on to memories of you not eating your veggies when you were 5? Therefore thinking buying more greens would be a waste?) but talking with people and taking the initiative are almost always useful.
I dunno, things like:"Mom, I really appreciate the work you put in preparing nutritious meals for us every day but I don´t feel great about my weight and I think eating more greens with my meals would be a helpful first step. Do you think we could work something out that wouldn´t be more effort for you but would still get me closer to my goal?"
If you want to know what you´re eating exactly you could just ask her what ingredients she uses or you could try to get involved: "Mom I would like to start learning how to cook my own food so I won´t be overwhelmed by the time I need to run my own household. Could I help you with cooking/cook one evening meal for the family every week/cook a side dish every night/(whatever you feel you could do)?" These are just random examples, of course. You know your mama best and I´m sure you could brainstorm some great solutions with her.
