lol its funny you should have that bitch Katie
I just finished reading a book about peace in the workplace. The guy put in place a Courtesy system of basic manners and totally changed his entire business because of it.
There are 8 rules, all are basic manners but most work places just dont seem to have them.
1. Speak very politely using a person's name - 'please' and 'thank you' as minimum (tone of voice makes a HUGE difference in this one)
2. When you talk about a person who is not present, speak as if they are listening to your conversation. Use the person's name in each sentence you refer to them (this stops you from dehumanizing them into 'they' 'us' 'them etc)
3. If you have problem with someone, talk about the problem only with them, and in private (dont yell at them in front of others which makes them feel stupid)
4. Apologize and make restitution if someone is upset by your actions. (self explanatory)
5. Greet and farewell everyone by name, with eye contact and a touch (okay the touch might be a bit much, but being genuine isnt that hard to do)
6. Blame a system, not a person (if a letter didnt get sent, dont blame the person who forgot and make them feel bad, but blame whatever system is in place for checking. If there isnt one create one)
7. Tell the truth! (you would be surprised at how often this gets mislaid, people make up the most transparent lies to cover up a fubar. Better to just say 'Sorry I screwed up, here let me do xxx to make up for it')
8. Use positive conversation. (dont be fatalistic, 'oh man everything goes wrong in my life', 'whats gonna happens next ' etc. Dont talk down to yourself or others)
If you start doing it, and stick with it, it generally starts rubbing off on others. If somebody comes up to you moaning and bitching then a take them aside in a kind voice and say 'Hey thanks for coming to talk to me, i really appretiate it.Do you think you could perhaps speak more positively about xxx in future? If you see me doing the same please have the same conversation with me and remind me also!'
Ive been trying it at work - its working so sucessfully that the boss has taken it apon himself to use the method for the entire office. The customers and staff are MUCH happier
Anyway good luck with breaking out of the 160s! Im almost to onederland myself
