Im doing this diary mainly for myself just so I can see exactly where im up to, you are more than welcome to help me along the way, infact, do please help me lol its going to be a big one!

Im 21 years old and currently size 18-22, im 5'3 so I prob look alot bigger due to how small I am. Im not sure on my exact weight until Tuesday when I can pick some scales up and to be quite honest, the thought of weighing myself terrifies me.

My fiance is planning on loosing weight with me which will be a big help and we can encourage each other along the way, but I still need help from you guys :grouphug: As im currently out of work, I spend most of my time at home, sitting at the computer, reading or cross stitching and that needs to change. We're planning on going swimming once or twice a week along with walking. I cant afford to join a gym until I get myself a fulltime job :( Im planning on tracking everything I eat to help me, that way I know what I can change.

My goal is to get back down to a size 12 eventually but I know this will take ages, I dont mind how long it takes as long as it happens.

Welcome to the forum, I will check in on you from time to time, I am also short at 5'2

Don't worry too much about not being able to get to the gym- the start of your journey should be much more concentrated on sorting out what you eat, and introducing more general exercise into your normal routine. Sure, running off calories at the gym is going to be helpful, but it's certainly not a necessity. Eitherway, when you are ready to join one I'd suggest checking out something like 24/7 no contract for £16, great value.

Good luck with your effort, you'll hopefully find plenty of great information and inspiration around this site!

Thanks for the link Caiman, looks like a pretty nice gym :)

So already im having problems tonight. I had my tea around 5.30 and now im hungry again. Think I may make myself a cup of tea (I do normally have coffee with 2 sugars but im trying to cut back) maybe that will help my hunger a little. I think alot of the time im thirsty rather than hungry, I need to learn the difference! I know alot of you will end up saying I shouldnt be drinking tea or coffee, but I cant not have any, im not willing to set myself goals I know I wont acheive :)

Tea or coffee doesn't make much real difference but try to keep the added sugar down to a minimum.

If you post your food here in your diary it makes it easier for other members to help and make suggestions of where to improve. :)

Morning everyone, todays my 1st day of properly monitering everything im eating. Now as im callorie counting, how many should I be looking at to eat per day? 1000? Also, how should I spread them out through my meals, this morning ive had a bowl of cornfakes which was 171 cals, is that normal?

there are a couple of ways to go, the first is to work out what your normal pre lifestyle change calories would be then cut by 500 making sure not to go below 1200 (unless under supervision of doctor or nutritionist) or work out what your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is based on bodyweight age and sex modified for everyday activity level but not specific exercise. you can then either eat 500 cal less than that or calculate it for your desired weight and eat at that value.

there are plenty of online calculators which will estimate your BMR for you.

Thanks hun ill have a nosy now

Im really proud of myself today. I had to go to the job centre this morning and on the way home, I made myself get off the bus a few stops earlier. This killed two birds with one stone (umm ok maybe 3, sorry birdies!) really because I got to nip into Sainsburys to pick up my dinner, then I nipped into the swimming baths to ask about discount for people who are unemployed AND I walked the 20 mins walk home. I would never do this normally so yay go me :hurray:

Hey, welcome to the forum :)
I'm 20 and from Leeds :)
Nice to see another English member around here!!

Definitely look up your BMR and work it out from that, if not, maybe drop to about 1400 minimum for now, as you're bigger anyway, that will probably be quite a drop from normal. I know I worked out some days I was going through 3000 easily :O

Good luck anyway and I'll be back to keep an eye on you :p

Looks like a good day, keep it up, day in day out, it's going to help immensely in keeping you on track.

Thanks both, makes me feel loads better seeing your comments. Do you think after seeing todays meals ive set myself ok amounts of food for each meal?

Hey, good luck with this :)

I use caloriecount.about.com to help me keep track on both food and activities, it recommended I'd eat 1400kcal based on my weight and height and lifestyle and stuff. There are more sites like this, if you haven't already maybe you should check them out! It also gives me info on the vitamins and minerals and all, what I'm getting too much of and what I need to have more of.

I was gonna say where is your lunch, but it looks like you got 3 meals in. o-o Just oddly named to me, being form Canada and all. I think you did great! Keep up the good work ;3 I find it hard to get my 6-8 cups of water in a day, so I actually started keeping track of it in my book. Now I'm working on times of the day to drink, so I can get it in. Lol. I think that water def. help flush all the junk out of my body. I keep track of EVERYTHING. That is my tip to you, keep track of EVERYTHING! Cause some things you think are nothing, can easily become something. Ohh! And if you want some low calorie food recipes, check out the foodnetwork website. We have been making recipes off of the site, or from a book we heard of from the site, EVERY night since we started, and the leftovers are lunches! ;3

So good luck, I need to keep my posts shorter lol. ;3

Hey welcome :D. I am short too (5 ft) so i feel your pain. Your meal plan looked great but tea without sugar is 29 calories? is it with milk? I always count mine as zero. o_O. Maybe i am wrong....anyway, good luck with your journey. Looking forward to hearing more from you. :)

Katherine - Yeah dinner is lunch for me and tea is dinner? lol :p

Island Girl - as for the calories in tea, umm im using this site: says 29 on there so thats what ive been putting lol :p

I didn't think tea/coffee had any calories when had black :/ Hmmm.
Either way, 29 isn't bad at all :D

Oh sorry, I do have milk... semi skimmed (didnt think that made much of a difference) so maybe thats where the 29 cals comes from?

Nice, keep up the healthy eating! don't go below 1000 calories though. Figure out your BMI and cut from that as some one else said.
