Brave of you!
Hey Sublime! Good for you for drawing a line in sand. I think the lucky ones wake up one day sick of being sick and go into action mode. I'm responding because I had similar numbers 5 10" and weighed 260 in Jan of 2007. Now down to 230 and feeling lots better! When you feel good that's what you beam and others pick up. It's a beautiful thing. Still have a ways to go for my goal of 180; short term is also 205 by May 3, 2009. Some things that helped me were a few free Podcasts on itunes: Fat 2 Fit Radio, Inside Out Weight Loss, Fit Girl, Logical Loss, Stuff You Should Know; great info/entertainment as you're walking away the pounds. Some simple exercises that don't cost a penny and get results are: pushups, chin ups (palms facing you/works biceps), pull ups (palms facing away/works the back muscles), squats, lunges, crunches, supermans or back extensions. Cardio is free: just take a walk or hope on a bike to kick it up a notch. I don't know if you have any dumb bells but check locally or on craigslist, they come in handy for adding definition to smaller muscles. Besides the physical be mindful of what you eat. You can still have the "good stuff," it just can't be the core of your diet. Jeff from Fat 2 Fit said something that stuck with me and a lot of his listeners: "Eat like the thinner person you want to be and you will become that thinner person." In reverse is how we got waistband challenged. An extra 200 to 400 calories a day for a few years is all is takes. Good luck on your journey and all the best!
