Just starting..

Hi,

My name is Lauren and I recently graduated college. Over the course of four years, I gained 30 pounds. During grade school I was very active in sports and at 5'2, I weighed 125-130 pounds. Now, I am at 164. As a recent graduate I am very excited to begin a career, but my confidence is down and I am feel disgusted with myself. I feel like I am stuck in a rut and do not know where to start. Over the last few months I have been starting to read labels, cut back on junk, and eat healthier. I have not been working out as much as I could, but the gym is b-o-r-i-n-g and I do not like running outside.

How can I incorporate fun/changing activites in my busy life? Even though I know the healthier ways to eat, I am still at a loss when preparing meals and snacks. I need guidance on how to stock up on low calorie, high energy foods.

Thank you for all the help and support! :piggy:

I suggest that you read round the sections on nutrition.

Also that you start logging your food and activity in - you can get a free account.

As you log your food you will see how high in calorie, protein, fibre, fat, calcium, sodium etc it is - which should lead you towards future healthy choices.

My food has lean meat, poultry (without skin), fish, legumes, lots of fresh fruit and veg, plus fat free yoghurt. It is amazing how many boxes can be ticked from eating from that list.

As far as exercise goes - the main thing is to become more active. You can even do that in your everyday life by walking to the shops or to see friends instead of using transport - wear a pedometer to challenge you to do more steps the following day.

It may be worth you checking out what exercise classes are available locally. I go to classes at my local adult education centre - but I see classes available in church halls, school halls etc - that are advertised in local newspapers and in shop windows. You may see something that appeals to you. I signed up for some and was quite surprised to find that I enjoyed things that I would have never thought that I would enjoy (e.g. aerobics).

Hi. Welcome! Is there any physical activity you like? Dancing, swimming, aerobic, kickboxing and yoga classes are worth checking out. I get bored working out as well, I make myself go.

I totally agree with jessica.

Check out the local YMCA or any other community workout facilities, they often have classes in the morning and afternoons for all different types of activities, I love all of them!

Good luck with your endeavors!
