Short version... I was 297 and worked my way down to 185. I've kept it off for a couple years now. I just want to stay motivated and hopefully help support a few others along the way.

Well welcome to the community and huge congrats on your success. Look forward to hearing more about you.

Braindust,
Some of us on here that have lost the weight and are now living every day maintaining that loss have formed a club, simply called maintenance club...if you do a search for that thread, it should be easy to find. You are certainly welcome to come and join us...we are brand new and looking for members!

Welcome to the forums and great job on that weight loss!

Sorry, I've been away for a bit, but to answer andilight's question...

What got me started was a trip to the doctor. He said I had a "frightening" low hdl and I would be prime for a heart attack in 10 year. He said the number one thing to do was loose weight so I started reading and learning. I took the approach of changing one thing at a time. Replacing one bad habbit with a good one and then move to the next.

I never got caught in the yo-yo quick fix traps. I had already see way to many people fail and even get worse by taking that route. With a lot of help from my wife we completely relearned how to eat and started exercising. It's now become habit to eat 6 to 8 small meals per day.

I also figured out that it makes it much easier to maintain if you don't worry about the scale so much as the body fat. Cardio is good but it can make you skinny-fat which leads to eating like a bird just to maintain weight. By adding in muscle building I found I could eat much more satifiyingly and still burn off the calories each day. At one point I managed to get back up to 217lbs but with only 11% body fat.

Oh well, enough rambling... If you want more details let me know. I've learned lots of great tricks to help stay slim.
