Hello everyone! My name is Sanja, I am 25 years old, I am 5`4 tall and I weight 169 pounds :ack2: This is actually my first day of commitment and I joined this forum in order to get moral support, encouragement and of course, tips and guidelines which will help me to maximize my weight loss. I bought a sweet little notebook which I plan for it to be my weight loss diary. I know there are online apps and websites, but I prefer pen and paper for my diary :)

Little background: I was not always overweight. 2 years ago, I weighted 116 pounds. But since then, I have gained around 50 pounds. And the funny thing is, it was not gradual at all. I was depressed, so I was eating a lot of junk food, I didnt even had meals, I just had loads of junk food next to me, bags of chips, chocolate, sweets... And only in a month, I gained 24 pounds! I was very surprised because it took so little time, but I didnt cared at all, I just continued to eat. That was the summer of 2012. I was at the same weight for around six or seven months, and then in January 2013 I gained 11 pounds in 3 weeks! Again, very surprised, and again, didnt care at all. It was in March when I started taking steps to lose weight. The depression was still there, but I was determined to take steps in improving my overall psychological condition, as well as my physical appearance. It took me 2 months to lose 15 pounds. I was eating healthy and I was walking. It is then when I discovered that I had anemia. And no, it was not because of my new diet, but because of my former diet probably. And the symptom that discovered my anemia was surprising too. I wanted to start running, and when I tried, I couldnt even run 3 minutes without gasping and fighting for my breath. It was my first try, and not only I couldnt breathe at all, but also my heart was racing and pounding like crazy, and I felt pain and a really intense pressure, tightening in my chest. I was really scared, and I thought that it has something to do with my heart. My heart was alright, however, I had iron deficiency anemia, with my iron level been 3. The doctor explained to me that the incident with the running was caused by my anemia.
Anyway, I was recommended to start eat more meat (surprisingly, meat is rich in iron), spinach, broccoli etc. Since I am not a fan of meat(I dont like the taste, I am weird I know), I started dressing it with a lot of sauces, I was eating it with bread, potatoes, french fries.. It was not long before my appetite for carbs opened up again. It was excruciating, I was dreaming of eating sweets and junk food. So, I fell of the wagon again. In a month, not only I have gained those 15 pounds that took me 2 and a half months, but I also gained even more than before, gaining a total of 23 pounds this time. That was the end of summer 2013, and I was weighting 166 pounds then, more than I ever weighted before. Since then until now, I havent gained any real weight, I just fluctuate from 166 to 170. Today, I weighted 169. So, this is my starting point.

I hope I didnt bore you with my story :D
So I will start with restricting my diet and just walking at the beginning, and then gradually incorporate more exercise and cardio. I will have an hour long walks each day, and my daily intake of calories will be no more than 1200.
Thank you for reading my long confession, I hope that we can all help each other in getting the body that we want :D

I would very much like to help you out. My name is George and I am a fitness and nutrition freak. For my whole life I have been active. For 25 years I have learned about nutrition, food, herbs, dieting, and everything in between.

Everyone has a weight fluctuation daily. So tell me more.

If you do not like meat, but need the iron there is iron supplements. I personally do not recommend them, but you may need them. Spinach we know contains a fair bit of iron... but what no one tells you is that it has an enzyme in it that actually holds onto it so we don't get it. So while you may eat enough to get the % of iron it says per serving, the spinach is only allowing about 4% of that to be released into our own bodies to be used. Strange how things like that work. You can try sun dried tomatoes, coconut, or apricots to get some extra iron, but you will have to eat a lot of them.

Welcome Sanja! to the forum. I would suggest you to restrict diet as everyone says, if you want to loose weight than it's 70% diet & 30% exercise.
