Hello,

New here and looking for advice. I'm trying to get myself in shape given my interests in martial arts. I'd like to do weight training at some point but right now my concern is my cardio, which is awful. I have run the 5K on the treadmill - once. It varies; sometimes I can do 25 mintues, others just 20. I'm 41 and "healthy as an ox" according to one doctor that saw me, so health wise, I'm fine. I do have some issues with one knee (spurs) and a tear in my right shoulder. I'll be seeing a physical therapist for that soon, but it shouldn't impact me greatly trying to get in shape. I'm so frustrated. It's always hard breathing getting through the cardio routines. Any advice?

The best way to improve your cardio, is, well, cardio. But it's one of those things you'll see good improvement relatively quickly so it's motivating. Switch it up between running and using an elliptical that should help avoid knee problems.
