To keep things as brief as possible I'm currently 28/male, 6'2, 340 pounds. I'm really just disgusted with myself. I've been walking a trail by my house for over a week now. The first day I walked 2 miles and since then 3.5 every day and been walking it as fast as I can without resting the whole time. I'd say I'm walking a rate of about 3mph because I left the house at 2:40 yesterday and got back at about 3:50 after the 3.5 mile walk.

Also I've been eating salads, apples, no carbonated drinks, using 35 calorie per slice wheat bread, and trying to stay active like go to a store or something after I walk to keep burning more calories. Anyways, I still am 340 pounds after torturing myself since the 19th. I tried something similar but with much less walking from May to June where I just ate healthy stuff and did not lose any weight. If I sit on my butt and eat tv dinners and drink a 12 pack of soda in 2 days I still stay at 340 pounds. Do I have a problem? I'm beginning to think I just can't get off of 340 pounds for whatever reason.

As a brief past description I've always been a big guy but I didn't balloon out of control until about 2006. I was around 220-230 pounds for a long time then I got lazy and went to Dairy Queen and McDonalds a bit too often and skyrocketed to 340 very fast. Now I'm stuck here no matter what I try and don't know what to do.

Well done for starting to exercise and eat more healthily. You have made a great start and really are on the right track.

Sometimes we can have a problem with portion size and sometimes something that we perceive to be healthy is packed in calories - some people encounter this with things like cereals. Even things like muesli that most people think of as a really healthy choice can hinder people's weight loss if eaten in the wrong quantities.

This is going to seem like a bit of a pain at first - but trust me - it gets easier - and once you are on a roll with one week pretty much the same as the next for food and exercise you can skip weeks.
What I think you should get a free account from and set up your profile info there (age, weight that type of thing).
Then log all your exercise and all the food (and drink) that you have. Remember to log such things as anything that you spread on that bread, any oil you use in cooking and of course any alcohol that you may drink.
Then you will be able to see your calorie balance - and it is this that gives you your weight loss. You really want to log for a while at least to get a handle on what is wrong and also things like acceptable portion size while the habits are being formed.

When you see that - you will have some really useful information. For one thing it would give you something to post that may give someone a clue as to what the problem is. It would also give you a great breakdown of the nutrients so that you could start tightening up your nutrition based on what you read in the nutrition section (particularly the sticky threads).

Walking is a fantastic form of exercise - it was the one that I started with as a very big person. It is also a good idea to bring other forms of exercise into the picture too. I suggest that you read around the exercise section too. You may surprise yourself by finding that you actually enjoy some of the things that you never thought that you would enjoy. A lot of us have preconcieved notions about such things. One thing is for sure - we all enjoy all the positive changes that happen for our bodies.

Do not get disheartened. The changes will start happening soon. We just need to pinpoint the problem and you will be on the way to making your weightloss dreams come true.

I totally agree with Omega.

I can't count the number of times someone has said "I don't eat that much" or "I eat really healthy foods" ... and then come to find out that they're consuming 3000 and 4000 calories a day. Even if it's healthy food - it's possible to eat too much.

Also ... take a look at this video on measuring food:

A lot of people have no idea what a real portion size is. We've been so conditioned here in America to think that bigger is better - to go to places like Cheescake Factory where a serving size is enough for 3 people, or to go to McDonalds and "supersize" or "biggie size" things. Anymore people look at a single serving of anything and think "is that all????"

So carefully measure and weigh what you eat - just for a week. I think you'll be surprised at how many calories you're getting that you don't realize. :)
