Just a comment

Just an observation I've made. I've noticed that some of the people answering alot of questions about weight training and fat loss are only teenagers or are pretty overweight. It just makes me wonder if we should be taking there advice, like personally for me I'm in good shape and very athletic and I don't know if I should be taking advice from a 15 year old or overweight person.

I don't see a problem with taking advice from someone younger or bigger than I if they are more knowledgable than I.

A 230 lb person who has already lost 50 lbs, problably knows more about weight lose than a 180 lb person who has never had to lose weight.

A teenager who is on the track team or wrestling team or football team is going to know more about strength training than a 25 year old couch potato.

None of us would be here if we knew it all. [shrugs] If you get advice you think is suspect, check it out by doing a bit of research (heck, expert disagree on a lot of stuff).

How about the fact that Ive lost almost 35 lbs, sure I'm still a little overweight, I answer a lot of questions around here, and Im 29 years old.

I can also tell you who answers a lot of questions here

Myself - Started 276 originally, dropped to 221, injured my knee in a baseball game I was calling, gained some weight while being inactive, started again at 283, down now to 248.
Abear - In very good shape and very knowledgeable with weight lifting
Evolution - (Im guessing) a student of some kind, studying weight training at college
Adler - knows his stuff about weight training
Spockafina - our resident nutritional guru, who happens to be 21.
Pumpster-
Mreik
Man of Steel - these three are also great sources of weight training knowledge.
Im sure there are others , I apologize for missing you guys/gals.

Were not overweight teenagers, nor are we claiming to be experts. We're not preaching gospel and were not holding guns to peoples heads and making them take our advice. If you don't want our advice, don't take it. Don't be bashing the people who come to this board day in and day out, giving advice on stuff we have researched on. Do I have to come here everyday and give what knowledge I've gained ? Hell no I don't. I do it to help people cut the out the bull**** information thats out there, the stuff that I (and most of the people who give advice on this board) have already cut through. Know the facts before you make comments like you did. Most of the people giving advice on this forum are adults who have or are achieving their fitness goals, not overweight teenagers like you claim.

i basically ask questions 24/7, and all of them have been answered. all of them. i feel in good health. before i got on these forums, my weight lifting was pretty bad. and my diet was pretty bad (calorie wise). i thought i was gonna gain weight by eating too much. now, i eat like 2x more, and i dont gain weight, and ive learned to regulate my workout, and much much more. infact, thank you all who have helped me.

This may not have been towards me pump, if it was, I apologize if it sounded like I got an attitude. I was insulted by that post, being one of the people who help on this board.

i am a teenager, and have been lifting for around 6 years. my grandfather was mr southern america, mr junior america, mr strength etc. my father currently does triathalons and coaches wrestlers. i learned most everything i know from them and my past and present football coaches highschool & now FAU. i myself am majoring in pre-pharmacy (will be a junior next year) and minoring in biochemistry. i understand supplements and weight training very well(mostly for body building).. and i find dom's comment very offensive; don't take anyone's advice if you don't want it.

I know how you feel, I guess now im considered the resident fata** giving advice on how I lost weight.

because man, people like you, the entire list you named off, and then some, despite their age, ( you left out grammaton ;) ) weight or whatever, have helped me alot. you dont even know aevans, you helped me alot. my girlfriend just told me she has an eating disorder, dont want to get into it. but, now that ive been here, im knowledgable enough to help her. just these past months, my life has gotten so much better. then dom comes with that nonsense. actually makes me mad. i can actually say ive made some friends on these forums. if you know where im coming from. but, whatever. hes been here longer than i have, i think hed know by now all the information here is, for the most part, valid.

Dom,

I've seen some pretty good advice given out. Sometimes you have to get over the fact of age or weight. I think you're entitled to your opinion but if you have a specific concern as to advice that was given you think is wrong you should bring that up.

Leave it to me to play devils advocate:

Dom I do understand where you are coming from. There are a lot of people who post on this forum; no one brags about qualifications or certifications. No one knows everything about all things, but everyone knows something about some things. Typically you'll find several posts under each topic. If a number of people are in a agreement; it's a safe bet that you've gotten good advice.

Like Evans said; we've all got our strengths...take what you'd like from what there is.

That said; in the future...try to phrase your posts in a nicer manner and with a bit more maturity.

for the record i turn 33 next month and i got overweight last year on purpose. in other words it was planned

its a long story :D

Then don't. I come here for support and motivation. I appreciate all the input I've gotten from all my questions but I also spend the time and effort to do my own research and draw my own conclusions. Even if someone were to give me completely wrong advice at least they tried and at least they care. But I would not blame them because I take responsibility for my own actions. I don't even understand why you brought it up, if you don't like the people here just leave. This happens to be the nicest board I have ever been to in my life, no fighting, no jerks, no useless space-wasting threads, and I thought everyone respected eachother here until I saw your post. Keep up the good advice everyone, I may not post too much lately but I visit many times a day and it motivates me every time.

I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I just want people to be aware and to take into consideration the facts given on these boards. I would hate to have a kid come on here and get the wrong advice or something cuz he was following the workout or weight loss program of an adult or overweight person. I read pretty much all these posts and the majority of the time the advice is great. I Just want people to know just because a certain diet or routine works for one person doesn't mean its a good idea for you.

then you certainly worded it wrong.. and i do think that most people take that into consideration(" just because a certain diet or routine works for one person doesn't mean its a good idea for you."), anyways no harm done, let's be done with this thread
