jumprope with weighted vest :>

i got a weighted vest for christmas:D and i was wondering if jumping rope with small weight is good for building calve muscles, or simpy good just to increase the workout.

i started at 8lbs and added slowly up to 12lbs now at 1lb incriments.

i do HIIT jumprope where i jump normally for 30 seconds and then do 30 seconds of high jumps(calve jumps) as high as i can. i do it for around 10-12 minutes.

is this an ok form of calve workout and is it dangerous to my joints??? i have under 10% added body weight with the vest since im 150lbs. its basically like if i was jumping rope when i am 162lbs(150+12lbs from the vest)
: >

I remember reading somewhere that anything with weight that you add is bad. Dont quote me on that. They said it puts too much strain on the joints and such. Same thing with wrist weights.

-_- what about weighted pushups? wat about weighted squats? what about weighted chinups? weighted crunches....weighted leg raises...weighted lunges...this is weight training

i heard that too much weight for certain exercises is bad. like weighted sprints. but not a lot of knee movement is required for jump rope. and like i said...its like jumping rope if i weighed 162lbs...no big deal right ???

THose are fine that is true, but you are not jumping it around. Its just sitting there. With the jumprope , the body vest moves and everytime you change direction it impacts your body.

There are better ways to build calves...

I don't think if it damages your joints, but I don't think its a good idea anyway.

Impact/ballistic training probably isn't the best idea with weight. The best use for the vest of yours, in terms of running and jumping is probably running or walking in loose sand.

Remember, when you land, you're putting about 10x or more impulse force on your joints, add 40lbs, you're now exerting and additional 400lbs, minimum.
