jpass, the lifestyle change

Re-weighed myself today and it said 263, so that's 1 pound down! :jump:

I got like 9 hours of sleep last night, due to training not starting till 2 today. I woke up around 10:30 and started with a nice 40 minute run down to and around the campus. I'll now start with the usual breakfast of a bagel with fat free cream cheese. Since it's so close to lunch time I'll probably be eating that soon too, and since I won't be eating with my staff and I only have bagels here to eat right now, I'll probably go get some ultimate chicken grills from Wendy's or something.

yay! congratulations on the pound loss instead of gain!
You were probably retaining a bit of water if you had a big
meal the day before or something that had a lot of sodium.
Glad you're doing well, keep going! A 40 minute run is great!

Congrats on your one pound loss!!! :) and i'm very happy to see you only Overweight BMI instead of Obese.. you are making it happen!!! :)

ugh get a chicken sandwich for me too.. gosh i love those things!!

Okay seriously i'm goign to shower lol Keep up the great work!!

Thanks for the kind words guys! Today was kind of different for me. For one thing, my training didn't start until 2pm. I swear I got 9 hours of sleep and felt GREAT! I started off with a 40 minute run.

Food intake:
  • 11am: bagel with fat free cream cheese
  • 1pm: 2 Grilled chickens with honey mustard from McD's
  • 5pm: 1 plate of steamed veggies and corn, 1 banana (I was being a vegetarian with my boss for dinner!)
  • 8:30pm: Bagel with ham, turkey, swiss, mustard
  • 11pm: half a beer, 1 shot of goldschlagger, bagel with fat free cream cheese

I guess first off I can explain my odd food intake. I eat a lot of bagels because quite literally; it's all I have at my apartment. I'm currently in training to be an RA for my school owned apartment complex. I thought every day I would be eating breakfast lunch and dinner with my staff at the school d-hall. I made a plan to wake up very early (6am most days) to run; and I would eat a bagel before going to the d-hall with my staff.

So I figured all I would be eating during the day was breakfast at my apartment. It turns out I was usually starving after the sessions so I picked up some more bagels and some lunch meat, and started making bagelwiches. So that's why I eat a lot of bagels :)

Also today was VERY exciting for me. We had what's called "behind closed doors" which is where we handle situations that are acted out by our more experienced peers. This is basically putting all of our training to the test; but it's also a part of our training, and probably the MOST important part. We deal with all sorts of issues. Today we had these: a roomate mediation, a girl who felt left out, a roomate situation involving a boyfriend, a girl who was cutting classes, a hate crime, a roomate concerned about her friend who was partying too much, and a girl who was dieting unhealthily. My entire staff did awesome. I did pretty well on my first one, but on my second issue was very hard to deal with but I learned so much from it. We have 1 more day of this tomorrow and I'm guessing we're going to go for the heavy hitters; busting a party, suicide, cutting, sexual preferences, and who knows what.

The school year is ALMOST here. 2 more days of training and then the residents move in. I feel I can handle a lot. But if I can't, I also have my staff here. I was fortunate to be placed on my staff. I feel we're the best working staff in the whole school. We're all very laid back and we work very well together. It's a great feeling seeing us achieve small victory after small victory. I felt like I just had to say something about the wonderful time I'm having here! Tomorrow I sadly start training again at 8, which means I have to wake up at 6 to run.

gosh sound slike you had a great day!! i'm happy to hear you have people you can trrust and work well with eachother it makes life so much easier i think.

Okay so complaining about waking up at 6AM?? lol i leave for work at 6am.. let's switch... okay? you get up at 4:30 and i'll get up at 6 hehe :)

anyway keep up the good work!!! today was teh first day of school right? ghow did it go??

Ok so the past 2 days have been different. I haven't been exercising, I've been lacking sleep, and I haven't been eating right. My RA training lasts from 10 to sometimes 16 hours a day. I was OK with the lack of sleep at first but now it's all caught up to me. I've had to skip working out altogether because I just can't sleep enough to wake up at 6 and be able to fully function. My eating hasn't totally been my fault. McDonalds screwed up my order and gave me a crispy chicken instead of a grilled. My friend had to run out to get this for me so I ate it anyways. Tonight I went out and got dessert with my staff. Tomorrow I'll be eating pizza with them. It's not that I'm trying to sabotage all that I've worked for; sometimes bonding with the people who I will be working with for the school year take precedence. And I'm not overdoing anything.

This WILL be a bad week for me weight loss wise. The conditions that training has put me in has made it very difficult to work out. But I'm OK with that. I've gotten to know 8 other people (my staff) VERY well in just the past week. It's been an emotional and hard week of training for everyone and it ended tonight with us all going out and enjoying icecream. What was amazing is, hanging out with them felt normal. I literally met these people a week ago. Training has stuck us together for over half of each day and we have triumphed. I feel we are the best working staff on campus. Tomorrow will be the last truly bad thing I eat in a while hopefully. I wont go crazy with the pizza. I've come way too far to let this intimidate me.

I got to finally tour the fitness center today, and WOW. That place is AMAZING. the first floor has a very nice gym with treadmills, elipticals, bikes, machines, and free weights. Yes yes you can find those anywhere but it's a big thing for my school and it's ALL BRAND NEW! Suspended around the entire building on the 2nd floor is a 1/8th mile track. The track itself is very nice, and I do believe it will make running easier on my knees.

So, I'm sorry for the setbacks everyone. But I feel it wont be that bad. I'm looking forward to this year as the healthiest year of my life! Thanks all.

Crap crap crap. That's what this week was! I was very busy and had no time to post. I also ate a lot of crap, took a lot of crap from people, and felt like crap. But now everything is settled down.

My RA training is D O N E. What a relief that is. All the residents have moved in, classes start tomorrow, and it's a brand new week. While I had some down time I visited Wal-mart and stocked up on new foods that I can eat for my dinners throughout the week. Starting tomorrow I will wake up at 7:30 and go for a nice run down to campus and back. Tuesday the new REC center opens and my workouts will increase. I have another 5K coming up this weekend that my sister and myself will run in. I'm really excited about this week!

Food Intake:
  • 8:30am: Bagel with fat free cream cheese
  • 1pm: Bagel with turkey, swiss, and mustard
  • 6pm: Ultimate Chicken Grill from Wendys, EZ fries, and a Weight Watchers Chicken Parmesian

Kinda sucked going til dinner with only that in me. I'm thinking for breakfast tomorrow I'll be eating a bagel with fat free cream cheese and a bowl of Mini-wheats with skim milk. I'll start reporting again regularly now! And I'll be catching up with everyone too! See you all soon.

Oh and one more thing, I'm down to 262! Creeping closer and closer to my goal. One of my friends noticed that I looked much slimmer too. Yay for ego boosts :rotflmao:

How about a small change of pace here? I have some pics! Here is my room in the apartment. Yea it's small but I usually only sleep and check emails here. The apartment has a decent sized living room which I will show you all once we set it up.

Here's a shot of the nerdy area! Yes that's a desktop, laptop, TV and ps2 all within arms reach. I love video games. Always have, always will.

Here's the sleeping area and my guitar. The bed is messy. Over the summer I got into the habit of not tucking in my covers, so I just kind of leave everything in a big balled up mess :hug2:

And finally the mug shot. Don't ask what's bothering my eye because I have no idea. It's preventing me from wearing my contacts. :boxing:

It's good to see how far I've come, but I have to remember there's always that chance to slip back into my old ways. When my roomates came back they brought with them bad eating habits and horrible foods. I found myself grabbing at cookies without thinking about what I was doing. What's scary is THEY find themselves putting on weight, and they're skinny! So after a little reevaluation I decided I have to fend for myself. They love me to death but are NOT out to help me lose weight. That journey is for myself. So no more cookies, even if they beg and beg for me to have em! I went to Wal-mart and bought my own food so I can keep track of what I eat every day. I'm looking forward to this year very much.

7am. I'm a little tired but I am so ready to run. I just ate my morning bagel. After I get back I'll eat a bowl of mini wheats with skim milk then head off to the first day of classes!

That statement, is 100% CORRECT ! Dont them them pull you down with them. You can socialize and be part of the group without being sabotaged. You dont have to eat what they are eating, cause like you said, they notice themselves gaining weight.. andy they're skinny. So they arnt out to help ANYONE, not even themselves! Stay strong, and continue to stick to what you know! Are you excited for classes starting? Mine start in a week- next Tuesday! Im nervous, but excited! The best part is the sport and wellness center! haha. Once I pay my student fees I can use the weight/cardio room as often as I want.. this will help ! My membership also includes use of the indoor pool, tennis courts and all fitness classes/events. (no extra charge.)

So once Im in school I wont have an excuse to not exercise! haha.

Glad to see you're getting yourself back on track, you will do better if you sleep more. :]

Take care!

I'm going to start adding in what my roomates eat for their meals for a few comparisons, and maybe to show what kind of temptations I'm dealing with.
Food Intake
  • 7am: bagel with fat free cream cheese
  • 8:30am: 1 serving of mini wheats with 1/2 cup of skim milk
  • 12pm: 2 pieces of roast beef, mashed potatoes with a little gravy, corn (all at d-hall)
  • 4pm: Serving of baked lays
  • 6pm: Chicken fetuccini Lean Cuisine
  • 9pm: E-Z fries, 2 fat free hot dogs with wheat buns + 2 slices of swiss

Workouts:
  • 7:30am: 40 minute run
  • 8pm: 20 minute run

2 of my roomates made a tombstone pizza for dinner. They each had half of that baby. I firmly said that I would not eat pizza. There's also a little tuperware sitting out with cookies in them. I should shove those things in a drawer :)

I ate a little more than usual but I also added in another hard workout. I do feel a little too full, so I may have eaten too much, or it may just be that my last meal was a little bigger than the rest. I knew I had to eat at 9 because I was starving and tired, and I had added more to my workout. The new REC center opens tomorrow. I probably won't be adding that to my workouts just yet because there's a huge opening ceremony and I doubt anyone can actually work out till tomorrow.

I was very excited about classes. Today went very well. Classes were fun, I got to see a bunch of old and some new faces. I also had my first 1 on 1 meeting with my boss and I feel we are becoming closer. It's always good to add another friend to your roster :)

Hectic day. All in all it was fun, though.

Food Intake:
  • 9am: bagel with fat free cream cheese
  • 12:30pm: 2 strips of chicken dijon, small serving of rice, half a meatball sub, grilled chicken sandwich.
  • 5:30pm: Grilled chicken Panini, 2 fat free hotdogs with swiss cheese.
  • 9pm: 3 servings of baked lays

Workout:
  • 15 minutes on eliptical (~2 miles)
  • 10 minutes on treadmill at 6.5 mph

Kind of an odd day for my food intake and workouts. I woke up late so I just had a small breakfast. Lunch at D-hall wasn't so great so I stopped by the chic-fil-a and got a grilled chicken. Had to cram dinner before my 3 hour class (6-9pm) and afterwards had a pretty big snack on the chips. I realized at 10:30 that I could still make it to my area's clubhouse to use their workout equipment before they closed at 11 so I rushed there and got it done. I have my 5k coming up this saturday. I'm pretty excited about it. Tomorrow I'll be heading to the new REC center to start lifting weights and seeing how fast I can run my 5k in currently. Thursday will be all about conditioning. Theres a HUGE hill leading up to Lancer Park (where I live) and I've got plenty of exercises to do on there. Friday it'll be a good 15 minute run to prepare myself for saturday.

Also, I may actually stop posting here. I came looking for support and while a few people have been greatly loyal, I find it almost not worth my time. So unless interest in my journey spikes before next week, I'll probably stop posting after the 5K. I'm trying to take an interest in more people's diary's but I seem to be getting no support in return. I'll keep trying though. Off to bed now.

Good luck with you 5K run!

I am guessing you work at a College? Sorry, I tried to read back but I am a bit challenged with these things!

Lays.... yum.... they stopped selling them here a few years ago

Yes, I'm a Resident Assistant for my school. I work and live at a place called Lancer Park, which is a collection of apartment complexes and townhouses. It's a little less than a mile off campus.

So far today for food intake: started with a bagel with fat free cream cheese at 9am-ish. Lunch at d-hall I ate a grilled chicken sandwich and a few potato things. I'm hungry now so I'm going to find myself something to make. Possibly a sandwich. Gym later at around 4 with all my roomates and a few friends. Should be fun!

Yesterday was busy busy busy and I didn't have time to post!

Food Intake
  • 9am: bagel with fat free cream cheese
  • 12:30pm: I honestly can't even remember what I had for lunch :( I want to say some potato things and something else.
  • 3:30pm: Chicken Parmesian weight watchers and some baked lays
  • 6:30pm: 2 burgers that my roomates fixed
  • 9:30pm: some baked lays

Workout
  • 4:30pm: 5k at the REC center track
  • 5pm: weights

And today I am soooore. Luckily my first class was cancelled so I got to sleep in. Hopefully later I'll have more time to post.

Well it's been a while since I posted. I kinda ruined my own 5K by showing up to the race 2 minutes late! But I ran hard til I caught up with my sister and just ran it out with her. We ended up getting 32:30, which is still 2 seconds better than my old time! I'm sad I couldn't have been more responsible there but I did have fun and I had a vast improvement in my overall cardiovascular performance there.

School's been tough. I've been busy. Classes are in full swing and I'm doing my college thing. I even have my eyes set on a certain lady that lives in the apartment across from me. So we'll see how that all goes!

The new REC center at school is so amazing. I'm really glad we have it. I work out almost every day (when my RA job or school doesn't prevent it) I started lifting weights again, which is something I really do love doing. I've been running every day on the track there, and having fun doing that. My roomates are all very motivated to go the the gym whenever they can so I usually have someone to go with which makes it so much easier.

I've decided to stop being as active in my journal. I don't have all the time I used to, but that's not all. I've come a long way on my journey and I feel that I can still go about it without posting every little thing that I do. I will still slip up, cheat, or do something to go against my changing way of life but that's part of living. I realize that it's a lifestyle change, and I'm well on my way to my goals. I will of course update my ticker and try to keep active in other's journals. And I'm now involved in a few challenges to keep me motivated.

I've also been showing a lot of people the picture I carry in my wallet of me at 315 pounds. I've been sharing my story just like I have here, and it feels great to share experiences with all my residents here. I couldn't be happier right now, and I hope this continues. Hopefully I'll see everyone around soon!

Just a quick update on things. I'm currently at 259. It's been a struggle since 270. I always struggle through those numbers. I hope things get a little easier here soon. Right now I run every day at my school's amazing gym. I run for about 45 minutes a day now. That's a long way from when I first tried to run for my first ever workout. I got about 50 feet then and had to quit. I'm pushing myself more and more and it feels great. I'm dropping my calorie intake by a bit to see if that can't jumpstart my weight loss again.

I've shared my lifestyle changing journey with my boss here. I told her in hopes that it would give her a chance to get to know me better. I think it did just that. I got to tell her all of my challenges to get to where I am, and all of my hopes for the future. It felt great to share every inch of my experience with her. I was at one point thinking of not posting in here very often anymore. Looks like I really didn't even have a choice. My RA job at school keeps me very busy. Add on 18 credits and you can see why I'm not here as often as I used to be.

Well hopefully I get a nice surprise this weekend in the form of at least 2 pounds gone!

Hey all it's been a really long time since I've posted here. I guess I can give an update on my life.

The last semester at school was overall pretty good. I got decent grades, and had a blast living in an apartment for the first time. I was also an RA for the apartment complex, and that was a new experience in itself. Overall I enjoyed my life there.

Unfortunately my net weight loss for that semester was a big goose egg. I went to the gym 5 days a week on most weeks, but eventually my busy life caught up to me and I probably actually left school about 5 pounds up. Excuses aside, I messed up. I want to come back to posting here because it kept me in check. Currently I'm on my winter break. I go back to school on wednesday and classes start next tuesday. I'm really going to take control of how I go about with diet and exercise. For one thing, I'm going with less and less of the 'crash diet' kind of crap that I was eating just because it was low in calories and fat. No more bagels with fat free cream cheese on them. Here is my current plan.

Weekday Diet:
  • Breakfast: 1 bowl of frosted mini-wheats with skim milk
  • Lunch: 1 sandwich from the Panini line in D-hall. This is usually sour dough bread with swiss cheese, ham, and roast beef/turkey, and I dip it in a little honey mustard when I take a bite. I may leave off the cheese this time around though. And as a side, either some extra bread or roasted/baked potatoes if they have them.
  • Dinner: A mix up here, as I have a few choices.
  • Chicken/turkey breasts for protein. To assist those, perhaps some light ranch or bbq sauce.
  • Turkey burgers
  • Steamed vegetables
  • Dinner rolls
  • Baked Lays

Weekends are a bit different since I don't go to D-hall. I'll try to find something else to mix in there to stay on track.

I figure this way, most of my carbs are coming in the morning and mid day before I work out. At night it's more proteins and vegies, as I've heard that it's better not to eat carbs before bedtime. A possible problem is my fruits. I'll have to work those in, perhaps in d-hall or I can just buy some as a snack.

My workouts are also changed from last semester. I was really heavy on lifting. For now that's going to change. Here is my current plan:

  • 25 minutes running around the track (5 minute cooldown)
  • 25 minutes on the ellipticals (5 minute cooldown)
  • 25 minutses on the bikes (5 minute cooldown)
  • And other than that I want to mix in some calisthenics and related exercises to ensure my muscles don't go to complete waste while I'm not lifting.

I know those readers at the gym aren't 100% accurate, but I do the 3 cardio exercises above, with the running being on a treadmill and overall I burn over 1000 calories doing that. Plus while I'm at home I add in swimming 1 mile.

I'm currently back down to 260 (I was hoping to be at 240 by this point. Oh darn!) and it WILL be the heaviest I will ever be again. I'm hoping this new exercise routine combined with improved diet will once again accelerate my weight loss and get me back on track. Any suggestions are way more than welcome. I'd love to know if I'm overdoing it or underdoing it on my exercise, or if there are more tasty yet healthy options out there for my dinners.

Well, sorry for the long post again. I have a habit of rambling. Since I skipped on the gym yesterday I'll probably be doing a bit of exercise around here. I may even go out for a run now. Happy New Year everybody! Hopefully I'll catch up with the old people and meet the new ones shortly :smash:

Hey there Jpass
I just wanted to pop into your diary and say hello. Thanks so much for stopping by mine and giving me support. You are doing really great considering how many obstacles or temptations seem to pop up at you. 55pounds is awesome, I can't wait to see that on my ticker..lol
Nice to meet You
Michelle :D
