Journey, Not A Destination

Here's another thought for you - and as usually with my thoughts -it comes in POOF - and very little additional thought goes behind it.

A buddy at work yesterday was going on and on and ON about SecondLife - which from what I can gather is a virtual world where you can create a virtual you and live in this virtual world - for dorks with no social skills I suppose (perfect for me :)

Anyhow... there are business ventures that you can set up and earn real money on.... and there are a few major businesses out there as well.. like IBM uses it for virtual meetings... (far more interactive than just a confeence call -I suppose my virtual avatar could throw spit balls or shoot rubber bands when they get bored) and a few ad agencies have their portfolios out there.

Anyhow - and I'm not sure of the feasbility behind it -but you could probably set up a "virtual gym" as a way of promoting your website... might give you a fun new audience...

the web site is

Believe it or not; I've actually toyed around with Second Life before.

When it first came out, think it was about a year ago or so... can't remember, but we were talking about it here at work since there are some huge financial potentials with it.

I created a character and flew around checking out some stuff. I just didn't 'get it.' I mean I get it... but it's so strange to me. I actually found a gym and people were working their avatars out in it.

I walked up to one and asked, "what are you doing?"

Response: "Working out, what does it look like I'm doing?"

Me: Left sitting there with a "huh" look on my face.

I understand that people get into that stuff and there might be some potential there. I think it might be something we look at down the road. For now I'm worried about handling the initial workload without any real advertising.

so it wasn't one of my brilliant ideas... :D

I personally don't get it myself - i mean i'm probably the most socially akward person there is... but that is just foreign to me..

It intrigues me really. I saw an interview a few months back where a couple is making money selling (for real money) clothing for people's avatars. It blows my mind.

Shit, I should start some sort of weight loss support community on there or something. But I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around the concept and that hinders my desire to jump in.

I really think there's a market there - and it's got potential... I really don't get virtuality myself... but it's kinda cool if you can make it work

Thats weird to me as well. I got into a MMORPG a few years ago, it is amazing how something like that can suck the life right out of you. I avoid them like the plague now. I also saw on G4 a while back that Second Life was a bit of a sham. They said that it failed miserably upon release and that now the whole "make real money" thing is just a marketing ploy. They said that while they had a substantial subscriber base (dont remember numbers) that the average subscriber only spends like 3 minutes a day logged on which is really pathetic compared to the more popular MMORPG's

The House

So I just got this email from the realtor:

Dear Krista and Steve,

The XXX are home from Vermont and have some renewed interest in your offer. I expect to meet with them tomorrow or Friday about some other items and will get back to you regarding writing an agreement from you and Krista. I need to find out from them what they are thinking.........

Do you still have someone who is interested in buying your home? I think that would be a real help if that's still a possibility. If not we will have to structure the agreement so that it works in the interest of both parties to get everyone to settlement.

So I will get back to you as soon as I have something more definite for you. (There was a showing this past Saturday with another agent but no interest yet.)

Thanks for your patience,
Grace

The longer I've waited to hear back from the sellers the more skeptical I've grown with regards to the purchase. Don't get me wrong, I'm in absolute love with the property. But the roof, septic, etc scare the hell out of me. I just found out that a very good friend of mine was interested in this property a few months back. He spent half a day reviewing the property. I spoke with him yesterday and he said the only reason he didn't make an offer was simply the risk of the purchase.... it's old and some of the stuff is 'shady' for lack of a better term.

There are two septics. I can probably get more details but I know one of them feeds into the nearby stream. It's not sewage... it's just sink/dishwasher/etc. But is that even legal or up to code?

I suppose I'll take this route: If they really are willing to accept my offer... I'll leave the purchase in the hands of the inspectors. If the inspectors give me good word, I'll jump.

If not, I'm out.

But that leads me to worry about the inspectors. I just spoke with another friend of mine who said their inspector told him the AC was great and the roof should last a good 5+ years. Three months after home purchase the AC broke completely and the roof was leaking so bad they had to replace one whole interior wall and get a mold treatment.

Phew... this is a major decision!

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my life. There are days though that I'd wish I could just close my eyes and things would magically fall into place by the time I reopen them.

But all is good and what is meant to be will be.

I love challenges. I really do. I was just talking about this in another journal yesterday. So that's not what has me on edge. It has more to do with the risk involved and the consequences.

you don't need me cheerleading you and believing in you - you've got that covered....

but -eh -RAH steve...

No risk - no reward... and you're far too sensible to jump unless you know what the risks are... you're gonna be fine...

Rah steve :D

I try to think about how boring my life would be if I wasn't constantly going out of my way to create problems for myself. :coolgleamA:

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do once I've got this fitness stuff on lockdown. Take up extreme sports, maybe? Maybe do like Tony Stark and start up a real life SHIELD. :p

Hahaha, thanks Mal.

And Focus, I tend to agree. Life would be boring if I didn't do the things I did. Extreme sports is a great idea. We're thinking about doing some downhill mountain biking soon and we'll eventually climb a bigger mountain sometime later this year or next.

Worst case scenario I'm left broke and I build back up from there. You don't fail until you quit... so with the right mentality things can never get toooo bad.
