This is a declaration of war. For far too long, the status quo has been tolerated. In fact, being average is not only allowed, it is encouraged. Your peers chastise you for striving, for struggling, for wanting more. They paint you as a dreamer. They want you to quit, they want you to fail, so they can feel better about their sorry lot. The less you make of yourself, the less they will be expected to accomplish. These are your sworn enemies. And while they may smile to your face, in private they pray for your demise. You must cut these cold, empty vessels out of your life like a malignant tumor and move on without hesitation. Waste none of your energy on these parasites who expect a free ride. Know that there are no birthrights. The only thing you are guaranteed at birth is death. You have a right to that. The rest is earned. You are entitled to nothing. Fuck a lottery ticket… I prefer to get mine the hard way. There is a war going on outside your cozy bedroom window-- An epic battle between the murderers of spirit and the architects of history. The critics vs. the conquerors. Which side are you on?
Please let me take a moment to introduce myself to you. My name is Steve Troutman. I graduated from xxxxxxxx and grew up in xxxxxxxx Township. For many years, I've been saying that the area is in desperate need of a quality fitness facility.
Several months ago my mother (who is the administrative assistant to xxxxxxx) mentioned your name to me. She stated that you were very interested in improving the community surrounding the District and that xxxxxxx had told you that this area desperately needed a fitness facility. A view I definitely share. This past Monday evening my father attended the xxxxxxx Township meeting and brought home a copy of your proposal for the Symons tract. I was excited to see that plan included a fitness facility.
I have been involved in the fitness industry in some shape or fashion for a majority of my life. I currently am a personal trainer holding two of the premier certifications available. My business partner, who is one of the top trainers in the Philadelphia area for xxxxxxxx Club, and I are also on the verge of releasing a company to the public offering a variety of services including in-person training, on-line training, youth fitness clinics, corporate fitness, and consulting.
I also have two degrees; one in business management and the other in economics. I am currently the manager of xxxxxxxxxxx, a local financial services firm here in Pottstown. I'm also a registered representative here, as well.
There are strong, fundamental values I hold that give meaning to the words, “quality fitness facility.” Any new fitness facility can provide a variety of exciting amenities and equipment. This surely drives “sales.” However, in my mind, it is not solely about providing the newest equipment. It’s about applicability. What I mean by that is, people are going to use whatever the gym offers; that’s a given. Too often, what the gym offers isn’t what’s best for the members. This goes from the ground up, from the equipment sitting on the gym floor to the professionals who train, educate, and maintain the members.
When applicability is in place, so is a special relationship that goes beyond what most gyms establish with their members. As I’m sure you are well aware, relationships are often what separates the leaders in any given industry from the rest of the pack. I believe this is what is truly lacking in the local facilities.
If I had the financial power, I’d establish my own facility and “do it right.”
The existing local fitness facilities are small, rundown, and antiquated. Even the new clubs, such as Rascals, are a disappointment in my eyes. The fact is members in gyms today don’t know what is applicable to them. So it’s easy for a gym to “please” its membership. However, it’s not about pleasing the membership. It’s about surprising them with world class service. It’s about educating them. It’s about going well beyond their expectations. With the health and weight loss industry growing by the day, I've been waiting for someone to capitalize on this boom in high-quality fashion locally.
In the meantime, I’ve been able to channel my passion of fitness through personal training and this new venture.
With that said, I was hoping that you may be willing to meet with me to discuss your vision for your fitness facility. I believe you and I may share the same passion of improving the health and wellness of this local community and I would love to discuss this with you. I realize that your schedule must be full and would even welcome an opportunity to talk with you on the phone or via email. Whatever avenue of communication works best for you is great with me, I just would like the opportunity to talk.
In advance, thanks very much for taking the time and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Do follow up with him in a week or two... if he's serious about the project, he'll want to talk to professionals in the field... especially people he's not paying to yes him...
I like the letter very much. Good luck!
for your own benefit, I'd edit out some of the personal info in that cut-and-paste... even if the members here won't do anything malicious with it, this is completely open to the public... you never know who will do what with it... Just lookin out for you, brother
Hhaaha, thanks Mal. Part of me thinks, "who is this guy to listen to me." But that's a small part.... I'm pretty confident that if I could get in front of him, I could at least sway some of his decisions, if not make him want me involved.
But it's that getting in front of him thing that's tough. Guys like him have a lot of people at their disposal.
