Journey, Not A Destination

Hi Steve, how's your web site going?

Tom, I met with a developer. I was going to make an update and explain my experience in the thread I started. I just haven't gotten around to doing so yet.

When I do, I'd love for you to take a look at the post.

Did you do the new leg day?

Yes, I'd love to read about it -- pm me in case I miss it.

Will do the legs this afternoon.

Did you catch that article in TNation about leptin, and planning "cheats" every once in a while?

I didn't. Honestly, I stopped reading t-nation. I'll see an article pop up for discussion on various forums.... just like this..... and take a gander. Other than that, just no time and a few of the authors annoy the hell out of me.

The site used to be much, much better. But when you get authors that are paid to write frequent articles, they run out of ideas. There isn't a lot of new stuff to write about that hasn't already been discussed to death. Yet, they have to produce articles.... so quality declines.

That said, a quality piece will still pop up every now and again. And I think even the lesser quality pieces still teach their readers a thing or two.... so that's a positive.

Morning Steve, hope Wednesday is being good to you!

Hi Tom, I didn't read that article but,
I'm interested in knowing more about it.

What do you know about Leptin?
There is some interesting research being done on leptin and obesity.

I know it is an appetite suppressant,
it's supposed to make you feel full and satisfied.
I know it is stored in adipose tissue,
and that some people are resistant to it.

I got interested in this when some friends were doing very low cal (starvation) diets
It turns out that a very low cal diet decreases leptin levels
and makes you extremely hungry.
That's why most folks binge about day four of a very low cal diet!
And the longer you stay really low cal the hungrier you are gonna get.
Lack of sleep also decreases leptin!
So being too tired can make you hungry...lol, who knew?

I know there are supplements but I'm waiting till more studies are in.

Here is what Dr Weil says about it:
"I'm aware that products purporting to influence leptin levels in the body
are being promoted on the internet and elsewhere,
but leptin itself is not available except in research settings.
As for the products you can buy,
I can't imagine that any of them
would affect leptin levels or actually promote weight loss.
To my knowledge none of them has been studied
and shown to increase leptin levels in the blood.
As a matter of fact, some of the products
may actually lower leptin levels for a period of time."
Andrew Weil, M.D.
I enjoy Dr Weil, he's not always cutting edge
but he shows a lot of common sense

So I guess that when they try to replicate a substance
that the body makes naturally, the result is synthetic
and the body can't always use it.

Personally I like spirulina
It's really healthy and it has the amino acid phenylalanine
in it for appetite suppression.

My 2 cents

I hope I'm not rambling
yeah I probably am......

Thanks for the links Steve.
Good article

Cheat days?
I've seen bodybuilders do this when they're cutting
They will cycle their carbs for 2 days and then on the 3rd day
have a carb up refeed!

It's nice to know that hunger on day 4 of dieting is
physiological rather than a will power issue.

T-nation blows...

Ehh around Steve, been trying to finish up the last 50 pages (out of about 1,100pages) in my book on exercise physiology. Now I need to start my selective rereads to help further internalize certain parts. There is just so much to try to remember in one read lol... Though, I'm happy because now I can start on a new book:).

Steve,
I hope you are having a good day! I hope you are able to get caught up with all of your work. Thank you for all the great advice, I am really starting to see some results!

David
