WOW. What a terrible couple of weeks for me. Absolutely no progress.
I gained back the 3 pounds I lost. Yeah, I know it is silly of me to keep tabs on the scale, but I am very disappointed with myself because I have lost all my progress.

Last week I was snowed in mostly because of a blizzard. I ended up sitting on my ass all day, eating junk food, and watching t.v. With hesitation, I managed to drive myself to the gym and get some excercise in today.

I have decided to take a different approach at the gym now. Since it is so hard for me to burn fat, I have decided that I am going to build muscle, instead.
In the past, I did MUCH better with building muscle, which in turn resulted in burning more fat overall, and creating a more compact, leaner frame that I was happy with, but I got exhausted with keeping up with it.

Well, in all honesty, I also have terrible eating habits. I don't eat as nearly as bad I used to, but I really need to make some permanent changes. I desperately need to cut out the sugar from my diet, since I know it's what drags me down.

I have decided to change my old plan, since it did not show me a whole of results, which I have tried to keep up for a couple of months. Although my body was changing, my weight stayed pretty constant. Also, I know that I really have to make a few major changes in my diet.

It's going to snow again, tomorrow. I can't go out and work out. I know that there are excercises that I could do at home, but I really don't have much to work with. I can do the standard push ups and sit ups, but that's all I really know.

I feel like I keep on coming up with excuses, and I don't know why. My lazy side is coming out. But I need to stay focused!!!

Well...no progress to report...sadly.

Bud, never follow the scale. The scale will lie, cheat and pillage your whole family. Take pictures of yourself monthly... it is a lot better at pointing out where you're at. I weighed myself @ the beginning and now, the in-between doesn't matter. As long as you can see progress you should be happy. F*CK the scale.

there is a fair number of exercises you can do at home without equipment except a bit of household furniture, not just situps and pushups.

trying really hard not to follow the scale!!!
I need to learn some exercises that I can do at home. Does anybody know any good websites/books that I should check out????

Excited to say that things have been picking up lately! YAY! I have been paying more attention to what is going inside my body, and I have stayed consistent with exercising. I am feeling sooooo much better and more energized!

I am starting to read the labels on food now, and I have decided to start eating organic food. I couldn't believe how much junk I was putting into my body, after reading all those ingredients and nutrition facts....WOW. I have heard good things about making the switch, so hopefully I will be able to keep up with it. $$$$$$

And I am AMAZED with how much saturated fat I allowed in my diet....
No wonder why I gained so much weight....
Like they say, "You are what you eat."
I ate so much fat, that I became fat! hahaha... BAD JOKE.

Made the switch to 2% from whole, and cut the junk food! Day 3 today. Keep it up, Mo!

Changing my milk was one of the first things that I did. I grew up on skim, so I knew I could do it. I'm drinking 1% for now after being on whole for the past 2 or 3 years. I'm hoping to get back down to skim myself, but I'm not sure how the rest of the family would do with that, lol. I may have to just buy my own half-gallons of skim. It's a relatively easy change in the big scheme of things, but definitely great to cut back where you can!

Glad to see that you've been feeling more energetic and on track the past few days ... it's amazing the changes that you feel just day-to-day from living a healthier lifestyle.

Reading labels is great but don't get locked into organic food. I'm sure most will argue here with me but just listen. "organic" is more of a buzzword than anything else.

Always read the label. Just cause it says organic (while costing alot more) doesn't mean it is good for you. Remember, sugar is natural and organic, eating alot of it will make you gain weight.

If it works for you, great, I just don't want you to feel that you have to pay all that extra money for an advertising phrase.

yeah I am very careful on reading the labels. Trying to stay away from sugar, and fat.
The only reason why I've decided to try to eat organic food is because I have PCOS, which promoted much of my weight gain.
Well, if anybody is curious to know...(and forgive me if I shared more than you wanted to know.)
It occurs to women, and instead of ovulating, the eggs that are produced turn into cysts, and all of the hormones from that egg just get stuck in your ovaries, which creates a hormonal imbalance and makes you gain tons of weight, amongst other things.
I have read lately about several successful women who suffer from PCOS who have opted for an organic diet, and do not need to aid of medication to lead a healthier lifestyle. Much of PCOS's symptons have been subdued, as well as an effective and permanent weight loss, simly by eating organic food.

Makes you see how many hormones are injected into the food you eat!
Also, starting to read the ingredients have made me much more aware of what I am putting into my body, and I am shocked, now that I realize what I am eating.

Anyway, ran out of organic food and don't get paid until next friday....that, unfortunately, will have to wait.
Meanwhile, been going to the gym (except the last 3 days....) and been working REAL hard not to eat any sweats, especially while working at Starbucks. Also made a consistant point to eat 6 times a day.
Maybe I am imagining it, but my waist seems to be slimming down, and my tummy has gotten smaller.
Well, it doesn't matter because I feel a lot better about myself, and I am very proud that I haven't slipped up at work.
I used to have an average of 3 drinks and snack on the pastries there, as well as my usual chicken sandwich, which is LOADED with fat.
Instead, I have opted for oatmeal. I ate a couple of biscottis, which is not nearly as bad as the pastires. I only drank 1 starbucks drink in a week, and I have been drinking smoothies to replace my usual fix.

After reading more about sugar, fat, and calories, I can see how I gained all that weight!

The week ended sluggishly, but I'm still going!

We could get into a huge debate about organic and hormones and such..but that is for a whole other time and place. This is about your journey.

Keep your head up. Just cause the week started slowly that it can't end with a bang. Lift your head up and move forward.

I've found that in my previous way of eating I would usually "nickel and dime" myself. MOST of the time, I didn't eat horribly bad foods, I just ate too large of portions and "grazed" all day long and the calories just added up so fast. I think of it like spending a dollar an hour ... when you think about it as just a dollar, it doesn't seem like much, but over the course of a week it gets expensive REALLY FAST.

UUUUGHHHHH I am off track!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been a couple of weeks and now i have continued my old habits... =(
Just started school and an internship...
Need to organize my day better to get back to exercising, and gotta go to the store and by me some healthy foods....

Last time I checked, I lost a total of 5 lbs since I changed my eating habits...don't know where I am now! OH GOD.

I will go to the gym tomorrow!

I give up. :(

Hey, don't give up now. Just because you've had a bad few days does NOT mean that you can't do it! You can't beat yourself up every time you 'fall off the wagon'. The way you eat now has been formed by years of habit, it's going to take a while to change those habits and so yea, you are going to slip up from time to time. The important thing is that you pick yourself up again, and get straight back into it.
What are you normally eating in a day? I've always been a pretty healthy eater, but wasn't eating enough so was having MEGA cravings and was bingeing on crap most nights. I eat sooooo much now, but it's all health food and haven't had a single craving yet :) I use fitday.com... if you sign up for a site like that, put in your height/weight and how active your lifestyle is on a day to day basis, it lets you know how many calories you should be eating in a day. I use the food diary bit too to plan my meals the day before so I know how much I'm going to eat :) I know there's a heap of similar sites out there too that do the same thing.

You really need to remind yourself why you set out on this journey in the first place, and know what your expectations are. Set small goals and take it one day at a time!! Best of luck, you can do it!!

Finding a form of exercise you enjoy and can stick with is a really good idea too- if it's snowing a lot where you are, maybe invest in some workout dvds to do when you can't get to the gym? If you don't like aerobic workouts, maybe go for something like pilates? All over body toning, and most dvds only require 1-2kg dumbells (and even if you don't have those they have good suggestions for alternatives, ie cans of beans, bottles of water etc) Or if you have the money maybe get yourself a piece of gym equipment for home? At my heaviest I was 85kgs-187lbs (I was about 17) I had been suffering from depression for a long time and had basically locked myself in my room and slept the entire time, and when I didn't sleep I ate icecream lol. I don't know what brought me out of it, but I did... I had no idea how to lose weight then, I'd always been like 60kgs-135lbs. The small changes helped me then, all I did was walk an hour a day and make small lifestyle changes, like I cut out alcohol and takeaway. Still had junkfood a few times a week, just made sure that most of what I ate was healthy. I got down to 75kgs within a few months.
Think of it as a hobby- finding exercise you enjoy to do in your spare time doesn't need to be a chore! And discovering new healthy foods you love is fun! Do you cook at home?
