Hi all. My name is Steve. Currently, I am 270, but this does not define me.

My reason for wanting to lose weight is because my life is great career wise, but I fear that I've let my body get away from me.

At my lowest, I was 190lbs in 2002. I got there by using ephedrine products and working out. I did not drink much at that time.

From 2002 - 2005, my weight climbed steadily reaching an all-time high of 275. The reasons for my gain were many fold. One, I turned 21 and started drinking. I had avoided drinking, as it was illegal. I have an addictive, driven personality. What has allowed me to be very successful at a young age has also led to my large waste. When I develop a habit, good or bad, I stick with it.

Anyway, in 2005 during grad school, during the summer, I began working out and eating less. I got down to 240. When I went back to school and got back into my old routine, I gained back 15lbs.

When I graduated from grad school, I moved back home and did an internship in New York City. This was great. I had to walk a minimum of three miles per day to get to work. I got down to 238 by the middle of 2006.

My internship ended and I began working. Since 2006, I have steadily rose in my career of choice and I have recently moved to the Pacific Northwest. Starting a new, difficult job led me to fall into old bad habits to allow me to focus 100% on work i.e. eating McDonalds and pizza most nights.

Now, I am back to 270. Honestly, I have no problems physically or socially, but I know this is because of my youth. At some point, my weight will catch up to me and I want to live past 50.

I am joining this group because I really want to achieve this goal.

I started 9/1/07. My goal is to lose between 35 and 50lbs in three months.

Many ask, I am 5'10.

The sad part, is I have stretch marks on my torso and varicose veins on my legs. I was concerned about the varicose veins. After being tested, my doctor assured me it was genetic, but the weight gain may have sped up the natural process. Great! Haha.

Lastly, I believe part of my weight gain is due to a personal tragedy in my life I am not yet comfortable sharing.

Well, I just bared my soul. Great to be here.

Awww... we have a lot in common! The joys of school and the wonerful things it can do to a person. What did you go to grad school for?? I also live in the Pacific Northwest! I am hoping that I will be brave enough to continue walking outside when the rain shows up.

Remember, as important as work may be to you, you have to give a little to your body so that you can continue enjoying (and being successful) at work!

Good luck! I am sure we will be chatting a lot on here. :D

School and work seem to consume so much of our lives that sometimes we don't even realize all the junk we've along the way...that is until you can't see your feet anymore.
