Jerry's Diary

Hi, my name is Jerry, and this is my weight loss diary :).

Before I begin logging stuff in my diary, a few general facts about me:
-I have a very strong will.
-I'm the kind of person that always gets what he wants, no mater the cost.
-The end justifies the means.
-I like doing things properly, not half-ways.
-I like to have statistics on my personal projects; this being no exception.

So, my goals :D:
-I want my body weight to be 60kg by the first day of 2010.
-I want my muscles to be stronger and bigger.
-I want the general shape and health of my body to change, significantly.

When am I starting?
-Today. Or well, not exactly, this week I'll be getting a gym membership, measuring food portions and water glasses, picking a diet, good work out routines, etc. All while I begin to eat less and drink only water. Next Monday, I'll have all I need to "start" start, so to speak.

Log Methodology
-I'll log data into the diary, once a day, every day putting a little sum up of the day before, containing my calorie intake, mental state, etc.
-I'll add pictures and update this post with specific data has time passes and stats build up.

Initial Body State
-Height: 1.76m
-Weight: 93kg
-BMI: 30
-BMR: 2,097.70kcal
-Age: 18

Target Body State
-Weight: 60kg
-Body Fat: 12-18%(less if possible)

Current Body State (2009-04-20)
-Weight: 91.7kg

Pictures
-TO BE ADDED

Well, I think that's about it :), for now at least. Let the madness begin.

Day 1

Day 1 - April 13, 2009

Hi, yesterday was day 1. I have to say it was unusually hard. My mind kept telling me to go buy some french frites, some chocolate, and go watch a movie. Didn't do it however.

I walked a little and got a hair cut.

I didn't really count my calories, but a rough estimate would be around 1400kcal.

Also, I drank 4200ml of waters. Not very nice going to the bathroom every 10 minutes. :leaving:

Well, I guess I'll be seeing you tomorrow. I may post some "current" body shots in the coming days.

Day 2

Day 2 - April 14, 2009

I did no exercise, drank the 4L of water and eat 1450kcal approx.

I've been thinking all day about eating some french frites and some chocolate. Didn't do it though, so I guess I'm doing ok.

Also, I noticed that although I'm drinking 4l of water, I'm not peeing nearly as much. I would say about 1.5-2.0l tops; so, what's going on? Was I dehydrated to some level and I'm now re-hydrating, or am I yet to start loosing the fluids in a burst in the coming days?.

Day 3

Day 3 - April 15, 2009

I did no exercise, drank the 4L of water as usual, but I cheated, not as bad as I used to eat, but it did rise the calorie intake to about 2500kcal approx.

The urges to eat more stuff seems to be decreasing.

Now I'm peeing more, I suppose I've started to release fluids.

Hey Jerry :)

I read on another thread that minus 250 cals from your BMR and slowly bring it down is the best way. Obviously not too :) Well done starting a diary i find it super theraputic and spam mine :D Have you joined the gym? Try using something like fit day for your calorie counting its quite useful :D

Ah, didn't know about the 250kcal thingy, well, I'm not very far right now. That's good.
And no, I didn't yet get that membership, been rather busy, and since it's friday already, I guess I won't be doing so this week; but, for the sake of consistency, I'll do it on monday morning, so I can start going on the afternoon.

See you around.

Day 4

Day 4 - April 16, 2009

Just like the past few days, no exercise(starting on monday, for real!). Water intake is getting VERY annoying. Not fun to drink 4L every day.

Speaking of "fatty urges", they are getting smaller and smaller as time passes; I mean, they are still strong and I'm keeping myself from eating by using a VERY disturbing thought. Seems to be working for the time being.

We'll see how things go on the next few days. I'll also weight myself on monday, on proper conditions, as the initial weight I posted is a little out of date, it is 2-3 weeks old, and I'm pretty sure, last week I gained at least 1kg judging by the kilo of chocolate I eat, among other equally fatty stuff.

Day 5

Day 5 - April 17, 2009

I've run out of water bottles and started drinking the house's water, tastes like bleach, but well, not much to be done.

Today I traded my dinner and afternoon tuna for some sandwiches, taking the calorie intake to 1600-1700kcal.

Also, I'm about to pick a definitive diet this weekend so I can buy the needed food on monday and start the gym at the same time.

Day 6

Day 6 - April 18, 2009

The bleach taste f the water is more than a taste, giving me an stomachache, so I boiled the water today to eliminate a high % of the hypochlorite.

I've taken 1500kcal today.

Also, I've noticed that I'm feeling generally better. I had some acne, it's going down now; I have more "mental energy" on the days(I can think better), and I generally feel like my muscles are "lighter", not sure how to put it.

you should get one of those water purifiers. they come in handy. I have a fridge with a water spout thing on it so at home i drink water from there, at work and when im out and about i bring my bought water with me

I did get one a year or so ago, but the guy that is supposed to maintain it, hasn't come in 6months. Right now the filter filters nearly nothing and has no pressure :S.

I'll give him a call, this can't continue like this.

Day 7

Day 7 - April 19, 2009

Water intake is just not sustainable any more, I go to the kitchen and to the bathroom immediately after. Today I went to my grandma's; went to the bathroom before leaving and I barely made it home(40 minutes ride) without peeing in my pants, had to jog the last 2 blocks...

Calorie intake was also 1500kcal today.

Speaking of a diet, I've chosen to begin things with an scarsdale diet. Diet which I've done successfully in the past(made me lose 16kg in 2 months, did it 2 times in those 2 months, the rest combination of other things). It does, however, sucks me dry, energy wise, and unbalances my general metabolism. It's worth it though; and I'm going to combine it with physical activity, no gym/swimming yet; it's too much for the diet's caloric intake. Based on past estimates, a 30 minutes walk used to be a lot while on this diet at this altitude, so I'm targeting a 2:30h walk; seems about enough.

Day 8

Day 8 - April 20, 2009

I started the Scarsdale diet, walked for 2:30h, split in 1:10 and 2:20. Since the diet gives me virtually nonexistent sugars, on the morning 1:10h walk, I found myself loosing balance a little, not tired though.

I started counting calories online, and it seems the scarsdale made me eat like 800 calories yesterday; 700 of which I burned walking, which, with a base consumption of 2500kcal(lifestyle + BMR) - ~100 = 2400kcal deficit yesterday.

On the evening my feet were hurting, and I have an small sore on each one, too fast, too much walking; so I'm gonna go swimming instead of walking after all from now on. I'm thinking 1 hour swimming(650kcal) + walk back and forth at moderate peace(30+30 = ~500kcal).

Day 9

Day 9 - April 21, 2009

Well, the "small" sores are not so small anymore, and it hurts when I walk, so I didn't walk today. Also, I've changed my mind with regards the gym, I'm thinking it would be better to start going to the gym instead of swimming, has that will take me a week at least, it turns out I need a medical certificate and blah blah blah.

The diet keeps me a little down, energy wise, but that's ok. I weighed myself out of curiosity, and although the conditions where anything but optimal, I think I lost like 500g since day 8, hopefully more.

You have mixed up BMI with something else in your first post.

BMI is the body mass index, it is not measured in % but in just a number, it is your weight (in kg) divided over your height squared (in m), in your case your BMI is 30.028. a healthy BMI is between 20 and 25. Under 18.5 is considered underweight, over 25 is considered overweight, over 30 is considered obese, over 35 is considered morbidly obese.
I guess when you say you would like 12 to 18% you mean body fat. You should not aim for a BMI of lower than 18.5. At 60 kg your BMI would be 19, so low but ok.

Just thought I'd explain that! And I wish you a good strong journey, I am sure you can do it, all you need is a healthy dose of understanding and the will to do it.

dude swimming kicks ass, you can work as hard as you want, and the water keeps you cool. i plan on incorporating it more towards july.

You are totally right, I was reading a body building forum when I posted, I probably mixed up values, updating in a minute. Thanks for the heads up.

I certainly love to be in the water and play around, but I hadn't noticed that; that should be enough proof of how much actual "swimming" I do when in a pool :p.
So, pretty much you think I should go with the swimming before gym, the argument sounds amusing; and honestly I rather not sweat like a pig. I'll try to get that certificate soon enough.

Day 10

Day 10 - April 22, 2009

The feet sores are healing, can't walk today though, still hurts too much for consistent walking.

Speaking of food, I got up a little late for some reason and omitted breakfast; which, caused me to fill downer than user and eventually go to bed at like 22, not normal.

On dinner, I was supposed to eat a green salad; and I'm not much of a veggies fun, I like some, I tolerate some others and passionately hate most of them; so I went to the supermarket and bought a carrot(somewhere between tolerable and like, haven't gotten fully used to the taste), some lettuce and cherry tomatoes(both of which I passionately hate, I feel like a cow chewing grass when eating lettuce). To my surprise, the tomato was almost tolerable since last time I had one(like 6 months ago), so that's good.

The water filter doesn't work anymore, finished breaking, so mineral water will be the choice until the maintenance guy comes(should that ever happen).

Good luck with your plan. Be careful, from lots of experience I can tell you that those very aggressive plans can lead to very aggressive cravings and binges. Also be aware that for a lot of people swimming really triggers appetite. Exercise that increases your body temp will suppress appetite (at least for most) I have been on 1800 cal a day since Oct. (well most days anyway) I have dropped about 55lb or so. You are young and I bet you have a high metabolism. That will help. Good luck on staying away from the french fry monster!

ive heard that the best results are to do cardio before you eat in the morning, or after the weights. its when your glycogen levels are lowest, so instead of burning carbs and calories you consume during the day, you are burning body fat. like i do my hard intense cardio in the morning before i eat breakfast, its working i think
