Well, ive been trying to start this diary for about two weeks now. But I always get lazy and end up not feeling like making an introductory post. So I guess ill keep it short and sweet!

I'm a guy, 21 years old, current weight at or around 400lbs. I've never done any real regular exercise in my life, or gone to a gym. My day would usually consist of two fast food / restaurant meals and unhealthy snacks. About two and a half weeks ago I finally made the change and starting eating healthy, and exercising. All my past diets have been low carb this, drink these shakes only, take this pill. And none of them ever worked. So now im ready to lose the weight.

I work very long days, and I also own my own business on the side. So its pretty hard for me to make time to eat healthy and exercise, but ive been doing it! I joined the gym and have been going 5-6 times a week. Eating very healthy, taking the time to shop for food at the grocery store. So I guess ill answer the questions.

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
100lbs to start

-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
No timeframe.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Healthy eating and exercise.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
Only myself!

-- How realistic is your goal?
It's not a goal, a goal is something you want and hope to accomplish. I will accomplish it, no ifs, ands, and hopefully no big butts.

-- When will you start?
2 and a half weeks ago!

Pictures!

So there we go! I figured I would keep my intro post seperate from my daily post. So ill post that next.

Ok well, I still dont know my exact weight. As I said in previous threads my stupid 70 dollar 500lb scale was lost in the mail and ive been waiting 2 weeks now for UPS to find it or send the $ back to the shipper so I can get a new one. But, the weigher at the gym said 403 last time I checked. And this is very off because its hard to do it myself and I had to face forward on it! So thats an estimate!

Lets see. I started eating healthy 2 and a half weeks ago. As well as going to the gym. The first day I started I could barely walk a mile. I was dying!

As of today at the gym I did treadmill for 2.5 miles in 65 minutes @ 2.5 average speed. Thats 2.0 for 10 minutes, 3.0 for 5 minutes and 2.5 for the rest. 0 incline as of now. Im pretty amazed at how quickly I was able to extend my walking length and time!

Ive been really having trouble with my eating, mostly because im finding it hard to get enough calories! I think im at or around 1000-2000 a day right now. Today I didn't do too great, I woke up very late as I was working last night. So for lunch I had a sandwich with a few turkey slices, a slice of low-fat provolone and mustard. For dinner I went to the movie theatre/grill and I had a ceasar wrap with sweet potato fries. I had very few fries, in fact its probably the first "fried" thing ive tasted in two and a half weeks! I didn't even crave it. The ceasar wrap probably wasn't that healthy, but it was much better than the all you can eat pizza they offer on sunday!

Tomorrow im back to my 3 meals a day though, and work, yuck!

awesome times on the treadmill...

What helped me out a lot with eating was to do preplanning of meals - if you spend about 5 minutes the day before - or even 30 minutes once a week (makes grocery shopping easier) plan your meals ouot for the week and that helps out a lot making sure you get enough calories

Thanks Mal! I'd really love to preplan my meals, but usually my day and schedule is so crazy its hard to do so. Also the other problem is i've really only started shopping on my own recently, and im still getting used to what to buy, whats going to go bad in two days if I don't eat it, etc. So sometimes a quarter of my food will go bad before I even get to it! haha Ive been on my own about a year now, and really was eating out/fastfood/frozen food the entire time. So now im actually doing real shopping. Once I can get used to that, I think i'll have a much easier time with meals.

Hi Jay,

I have to agree when you first get out on your own its hard to do proper food shopping. You will learn what foods to get after a few trips.

Your doing a great job at the gym... your endurance and ability will build up probably faster than you would imagine.

Keep it up

Thank you! :)

Today really stunk! I've either gotten a stomach bug, or my body is readjusting to the food changes. For breakfast I had a low carb wrap, some egg beaters, a few slices of turkey and a slice of low-fat provolone. I haven't had much else today because I haven't felt good. Hopefully ill feel well enough to go walk at the gym a for a bit!

I'm sorry your not feeling well. It could be either the stomach bug or your body adjusting. Hopfully you'll feel much better when you wake up tomorrow morning.

You're breakfast this morning sounds really good:)

Hey JayJay, welcome to WLF, I hope you find it helpful. 400 pounds and only 2000 calories, shite! You might need to up that a bit. I love this site for helping to figure out how many cals to eat:

21 years old and running your own biz ... wow. I hear you on just getting the hang of it on shopping and all that stuff...it'll come together. I read a lot of nutrition books. It's like learning all over again...but learn we can. Good on ya! I always love when guys come on here...you will like Tom, Steve and a few others I just can't think of right now.

Take care and see you soon. Have a good day tomorrow!

Thanks so much! I went to that site, but wow.

You need about 5565 calories during a typical day to maintain your current weight.

I don't even know if I was eating that much before! Well, at least I managed to fit in a can of tuna and some saltine crackers which brings up my calories a bit today. I also ended up grabbing a diet pepsi, i haven't had one in over a month and a carbonated drink usually helps calm my stomach. Which I think it did! Feeling a bit better now.

The thing is, im usually not hungry during the day after my meals! Ive been drinking a lot of water, and usually that fills me up between meals.

Today I had off from work again, so I went shopping for some new clothes. I was able to fit into a 2x pair of shorts for working out. and I got an awesome (expensive) 4x button down. Thats down from a 5x shirt since I shopped a few months ago. Woohoo!

I thought i'd share a picture of myself (ugh) with my new clothes, so here it is. :)

For breakfast I had to run so I had some artichoke salad from a jar, yum. 40-50 calories. Then for lunch I had chicken breast pieces, crackers and mustard. Ill have to have a big dinner to make up for the lack of calories today. But I dont want to overdo it because of my stomach yesterday!

Tonight I head to the gym for more treadmill fun, perhaps 75 minutes this time?

Thanks for sticking through another post guys. :rotflmao:

Your a very good looking guy! Your new outfit looks great too. You're brave for posting your pics ... I can't bring myself to do it.

I'm glad you're feeling better and we're able to eat today.

Goodluck on the treadmill.

Have a good night

Thank youuu! Yea, i had to force myself to post them! But its not so bad. We are all in the same boat here. :) You'll do it once you are comfortable with it im sure!

So I went to the movies tonight and saw die hard, had a grilled chicken ceasar salad there. After I went to the gym, I started not feeling too well again so instead of staying long i tried for speed instead of length. I'm quite proud of the results!

2 miles @ 2.5 mph for 30 minutes, 3.0 mph for 12.5 minutes 3.5 mph for 2.5 minutes

So that was 2 miles in 45 minutes, woohoo! When I started I was barely doing a mile in 40 minutes. Which means ive mastered 2.5 mph! Now I can slowly start doing 3.0 longer. Unfortunately I think 3.5-4.0 will be my limit. Because I dont think the treadmill will take that much weight impact. lmao :rotflmao: And still trying to figure out how to start weights, so we'll see what happens there!

How was die hard.. the reviews were surprisingly good... the trailers for it didn't excite me but I loved watching the other 3 with my dad growing up. But the reviews were good so I think I may give it a shot.

Great job at the gym... see your endurance is building up quickly:)

Maybe there's someone who works at the gym who you can make an appointment with to show you around to make a good weight training program. Its always safer to have someone show you around when your new to it... you can really get hurt if you don't know.

I saw your post on the This is a club I don't want anyone to be in thread... CONGRATS!!!

I hope your having a good day
~Jenna

Thank you again! :)

Today was a pretty crappy day, though it was mostly because of work. But I still stayed on track. I only got in 25 minutes on the treadmill because I couldn't focus. But the great thing is I didnt do what I always do when im stressed or angry, go to food! I had the worst urge to go to wendys or burgerking but I fought it.

Today I had a foot long wheat sub from subway with lettuce, pickles, green pepper and lots of mustard. Yum. Its weird but I like it better than the turkey sub. I can never taste the turkey anyway and its loaded with salt.

Thats actually all I had today, so I better go make something to eat soon.

LOL Yah, you make a good point. 5565 is over the top. But maybe shooting for 4000 cals/day for the first week or two and then paring it down by 500 increments over a couple more weeks until you get to 3000/day, then go to 2500 once you've lost some weight. I'm 5'9" and 150 pounds and 2100 cals/day is my maintenance amount so if you eat 2500/day I think your body might be a bit shocked. At 400 pounds you will still lose weight, especially with your commitment to excercise. Way to go on the healthy eating and avoiding your temptation today!! And also that's great you're drinking lots of water. You've got all the important peices to healthy living.
That's great you posted a picture because you'll feel so great when you see the difference.

Great job avoiding the fast food... sometimes its so hard to battle those cravings. Subway puts a small of amount of extremely processed meat on their sammiches ... good choice with the veggie sub.

I don't know if you have any near you... but I used to get subway turkey all the time instead of fast food... and then I found D'Angelos... they use actual meat on their sandwiches!!

I hope you have a much better happier day today!!! (That sentence had tons of proper English being used:) )

Aww, none here in texas for D'angelos. Yea, I don't really like the turkey much at all. I get the veggie with a lot of extra mustard, and extra pickles and it tastes awesome. Not that im too worried about sodium, im drinking quite a bit of water each day.

I know someone mentioned this in another thread, but im going to be buying a bunch of junk food and candy tomorrow and just letting them sit on my desk. I think that its time to train my will power, cause thats really always been my problem. If its there, I want to eat it. So im NOT gonna eat any of it. I'll let it all rot! :rotflmao: I know it'll be hard though if I get stuff I like.

Today I did feel much better, still having problems at work but hopefully that will be resolved soon. I had a low carb wrap with turkey, two slices of low fat provolone (craved cheese), and mustard. Had a little artichoke salad with it. Then later on before I went to the gym I had a big plate of whole wheat spaghetti with garlic alfredo sauce. MMM was delicious. I like whole wheat more than regular spaghetti now. And the alfredo was only 80 calories per 1/4th a cup!

I went to the gym with my roomate and did weights for the first time, he showed me how to do a bunch of them. Boy am I sore. The weights were pretty damn hard for me, but I managed to do a nice routine. I also tested out some leg presses and I was able to 330 which was the max on the machine.

I also checked my weight again today and it looks like im down to 394!!!! Im kind of sceptical, and kind of really mind blown because I was at 406-410 when I started. 403 when I started at the gym, and suddenly in a week and a half or two weeks I went to 394. If im right, thats 10-13lbs lost. I dont even see it yet myself, but I do feel better in general.

Whew, that turned out to be a long post. G'night!

That's gonna take a ton of will power... but I'm sure you can do it.

If its the same scale that you've been using there's no reason to doubt what it says.

The soreness means you really work yourself good!! I actually enjoy being sore after the gym... I feel like I really accomplished something.

Have a good evening
~Jenna

Well lets see, so much to say!

Life seems to really be getting on track, my work problems have been settled and it feels like a huge weight has been lifted. I am going to be moving back to Florida (from Texas) and keeping my job with the current company I work for from home. This is going to allow me so much more freedom, and saving an hour and half of driving a day! Not to mention a ton less living cost. Im really happy about it.

Today, I had two meals, but I was in such a rush and worry that I didnt even think about food or feel hungry. For lunch I had a turkey wrap from Jason's Deli, it has sprouts on it, some guacamoli, a dressing of some sort, and lettuce and what not. Got that with steamed veggies. It was very good, and just short of 500 calories I think. Not too bad on the fat either, but the sodium is pretty high, 1000ish. Which like I said with the water ive been drinking doesn't matter much I think.

For dinner I was so busy on the phone with family about the job and move that I just threw a few slices of turkey and a slice of provolone on a plate and had that with some mustard.

So, not the best meal today. But im still glad I didnt just go for some random unhealthy junk. August 10th ill be leaving for Florida, woohoo!
