Hi Everyone,

If you have read my intro you know a little bit about me. I am 22, I am from South Dakota, I used to be athletic and about 150 lbs, at the begining of last week I was 213 and now I am 208.

I have tried losing the weight a couple different times in the last year or two. most of the attempts were short and extreme. Low calorie high activity periods. Most of them in the 1000 calorie a day range, and doing a spinerval video or a hard bike ride. Looking back the only way I can justify that thinking is the fact that I had been athletic in the past. It should be easy right? Those usualy lasted less than a week.

This time my approach is much different. I havent counted a calorie yet. I started eating breakfast before work, cut out soda, added water, ate a light lunch, made a nutricious supper, and maybe a snack of fat free frozen yogurt with fruit. I also started doing bike rides, not killing myself, and just walking. I have also got into geocaching, which is another way to get out and walk with a reason other that exercise.

In the last week I have lost 5 lbs, which I expect to slow down. But I feel much better, and I feel that I will be meeting my goals this time.

I will update soon... Thanks for the support and inspiration.

I hafta ask- whats a spinerval video?? Sounds a little creepy, lol... Anyways yeah, 1000 cals was way to low for you, so its good that you aren't doing that again! Looking forward to hearing more from ya~have a great day!

5 lbs in one week??? That is incredible! Wow, I think what you are doing is going to pay off for you Big Time! And it sounds much less painful/more sustainable, which is always good. Anyway, keep it up and let us know how you are doing!

Jess,
Spinervals is a video used by cyclists for indoor training, usually 1/2 to 1 hour of pretty hard riding on a trainer.

ABBA,
Thanks for the support, it looks like we are both trying to lose about the same. I will have to look through your diary.

Becareful about old ways ..
don't slip into eating too little
five pounds is actually a lot to lose ..but that usually happens in the initial ..especially the more overweight you ...are

usually people try to lose about two pounds a week ..around there ..and thats usually the healthiest... you want it to come off really slow ..so it stays off permanently

best wishes hun
keep up the good work
and make sure you eat more than 1000 calores a day ..
just learned this ..
if you * your weight by 12 = your total calories you need to intake to keep where you are ...cut it down by thirty percent I believe and thats how much you should be eating to lose weight ...

best wishes
always

Thanks for the support.
This week has gone pretty well, I haven't really slipped eating yet, but I didnt see as much progress as last week. That was expected though. I am feeling better though, I have been taking a lot of walks, bike rides, and I am going kayaking tomorrow. Most of the reason I want to lose my weight is because I love the outdoor lifestyle, and being slim and fit definately makes that easier. I love rock climbing, but since I am heavier now I dont do it at all. I hope to again next summer. I will keep you updated on my progress, and I plan on starting a thread with pictures from my "adventures" on foot, bike, and kayak.
Thanks again,
Jason
