Jane's Diary

I am so ready to have the support of people that might have experienced some of the same weight-loss challenges as I have. Here's my quick story. I was actually a pretty slender kid. I didn't really start to feel like I had a problem with weight until I hit puberty. I was able to keep my weight under control in high school because I was ultra-athletic. Even then, I had to eat very well. When I hit college, I ballooned. I think I put on 30 pounds in the first year alone. About a year before I got married, at age 22, I decided to get back in shape. I joined the APEX program, and that worked pretty well for me. I lost about 20 to 25 pounds. Over the next year, I actually lost more because of the habits I had formed. After I got married, I again began to gain weight again. I hardly worked out at all, and got really stressed out about just the new responsibilities I had. I steadily gained about 30 pounds over the next 4 years while I was supposed to be a role model for the kids I coached. I just took on more stuff to do to avoid thinking about my weight. When I was 25, I got pregnant with my first child. During the pregnancy, I gained 80 pounds!!!. I lost about 55 of that over the next year and a half or so. When my son was 2, I lost back down to the point that I weighed about 15 pounds less than I had when I got pregnant. This time I had used Somersizing. I was ecstatic. Very happy with my body at the time. About a year later I got pregnant with my second child. Although I gained almost 50 pounds during the pregnancy, I worked out the whole time, and felt great. After he was born, I lost about 20 pounds over the first year, but was never able to go any further. I actually gained back most of it.
Now I weigh 228 pounds, and over the past 6 months, I have gone back and forth between 220 and 230. I have walked pretty regularly and lifted sporadically over this time period. The weight just isn't coming off. It's probably because I have never really been specific and detailed about my eating plan. Well, the thing is, I am ready. I want to feel good and be a good, healthy role model for my boys so that they will have a better outlook on their health than I have throughout my life. I feel like I have spent my life (since about age 13) being unhappy with my body on and off. I would like to lose forty pounds over the next 6 months. I want to change the way I think about myself. I really know I can feel good, I just have a problem with consistency of positive self-talk. So here I go. 188, here I come!!! I really hope to get support to keep going and really stick with this!!!

Hi Jane

Good luck in your weight loss project.

I walk a lot and find that helps me to lose weight. I find wearing a pedometer very helpful because when I see how many steps I have done it kind of challenges me to do some more.

As you have found in the past - the combination of healthy eating and exercise will help you lose weight.

Take care
Best wishes
Margaret

On My Way Now

Well, here I am again. I haven't posted much, as I have been very busy. The thing is, I gained about 2 pounds in December. I started really watching myself a couple of days after the new year. I have tried to really watch my portions, cut out high fructose corn syrup, walk some more, get plenty of rest, and leave time for myself. As of today, I have lost 11 pounds since the new year. I am ecstatic. I have tried to not get hung up on weighing myself. I've kept a sense of humor on those mornings when I'm just sure I've lost weight and I am disappointed. I am very proud of myself because I just feel like I have changed my attitude toward my weight. I am 11 pounds down, and I would like to lose about 29 more pounds before the end of the summer. We'll see.:)
